Penn's is a North Alabama thing. The "filler burger" isn't unique to the area, though.

Perhaps not, but I've eaten cheeseburgers on a regular basis all over AL and MS and the only place I know that does it is north Alabama. It's a unique cultural cuisine.

I got my fill this morning about 11. Waited about 45 minutes. Just saw where they ran out of buns. Straycat if you ever come to Decatur I'll buy if you want to go. Just let me know. I used to love Dubbs when I was a teenager. But Penn's is better in my opinion. Definitely need to try for yourself if you haven't. It's a love it or hate it thing for sure. Must be a lot up here love it. They had food for 4 days and ran out yesterday. Just now ran out of buns today. But the line has been long all day. A lit of happy faces today. Especially me!

Is it the same thing as a slug burger, like from north Mississippi Corinth area

Yes it is. I've seen Penn's listed as a stop on the "Slug Burger Trail".

I forgot about Corinth. Used to eat those things when I was Ole Miss....had several friends from there. Close enough to North Alabama to be the same influence.

Corinth, is where slug burgers got their start. I think it's only supposed to have mustard and a pickle on it...I could be wrong though. They are pretty good.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slugburger

All that being said, I can't believe people are losing their damn minds over a slug burger.

That would be mustard and onions. They don't have lettuce tomatoes or pickles.

BIL used to have them delivered to Las Vegas.

He said the sack was a little greasy by then.

I used to like Nesmiths. Last time I was there it just wasn't good. Maybe the lines will die down this week. I'm ready for another one. Onion rings Saturday were awesome. They didn't have the strawberry/cream pies but the apple was good.

Hmm who was your BIL? I much rather eat them there. Can't imagine after a couple hours or more. I quit taking them back to work. Truck smelled like onions for a while.

If you stay drunk enough, anything is good.
That's why waffle house is popular with the 3am crowd.

Sounds like it could cure a case of constipation too.
