On a serious note, regardless of whether you carry a smooth-running manly and beautiful .45 ACP or a mostly plastic Glock, ugly as homemade sin, thumbup what holster setup and carry method do you use for church? We are starting a safety team at my church, and while I have shot a considerable amount, I am not proficient in CCW or drawing and firing from a holster. I am in the process of signing up for some defensive-type training and I know they will cover this, but I would like to know what you goobers like, specifically with carrying in church in mind. I normally wear a coat to church on Sunday, but not to every function, so that is also an issue. BTW, right now I actually carry a S&W .380 in an OWB holster, but would like to carry my Glock 22 (a favorite shooter) OR one of my Kimber or Colt 1911s. Thanks!

btw, I attended a training session last week. The instructor went over the recent TX shooting in great detail. The first man shot and killed was carrying in the back and it was obvious he stood up as he was unholstering his weapon, the shooter saw him stand and he was killed. As the instructor stated, one possible thing would have been for him to stay seated as he reached behind his back to draw and fire. Hindsight being 20/20 and all...going over the tape in 5 to 10 second swatches was very informative but hard to watch...

When I am wearing a coat or vest I carry a 1911 Commander IWB with a spare mag on my off side. Otherwise I carry a Glock 27 in my front pocket (cargo pants).

Soala glad your getting trained up. Shooting is a perishable skill full firing grip smooth drawstroke sights on target press the trigger follow through(that last ones really important) Iwb or Own? Off body carry or pocket? Tote a few and you'll find best what works for you. Personally I'd think your favorite turkey blaster is better than any handgun. Don't neglect enough spare ammo and carry of that ammo as well as a backup piece a minirevolver or pocket pistols. Better still are friends with rifles. Might wanna see if the choir loft could conceal an AR or 14. Better to have too much spare ammo and a plan than victimhood.

Only hits count.

I carry at a 4-5 o’clock position. I’d love to appendix carry BUT you got to not have a gut. While mine is not very large it prevents me from carrying that way. Argument appendix over back or FBI carry is that you can draw quicker and can control gun better. For argument sake someone could pull it easier from your holster from the back vs the front.

I regret to say I haven’t shot a lot over the last year. I have taken multiple classes tho. The last being the last 6 mo which was a citizen response to an active shooter. I actually shot with a church security team.

10-4 on the loft (media center, no choir) and rifle, we are getting that done. Great vantage point. Thanks to the commenters!!

I am on security too. Can't emphasis training enough. I always have one IWB at 4 o' clock (S&W shield 45). The other is in my jacket/vest pocket and my hand is on it (Kahr CM9) if I am assigned roaming, and always 10 min before service until 15 min into service. That is the highest threat time.

If I am outside roamer, same as above. I also park on the inside row in the middle of the parking lot. AR 15 and ignition key in the ignition. Doors are locked and can be unlocked with a fob. I can get to my vehicle within 50 steps max. This is more for child abduction than shooter.

The one thing I THINK I learned from the recent Texas shooting is with most of us, I'm afraid there would have been more fatalities. I watched that video and realized my concealed carry is way to deep and slow to access. The ex-FBI guy started from a standing position and was carrying on or in the belt from a natural draw position. The lesson learned is, when lives are on the line, the defense needs to be readily accessible, even if it means sacrificing some degree of concealment. If I were on a security team, I'd have to wear a jacket and carry OWB. A pistol in a front pocket, if seated, or tucked in a boot would have cost lives. IMHO.

I carry either a Glock 27(40), SW442(38), or a LCP(380) in my right front pocket.
If I am perceiving a threat my hand goes in my pocket and grips the weapon.

FWIW, one of our sales gals father is ex Secret Service. He had the presidential detail under Clinton and Bush2. (He detests Hillary, but still visits with the Bush family). Yes, he is on the security team where he attends church. He wears a Kevlar vest and carries 3 weapons to each service.

Most always a M&P 9c IWB @ 4 o'clock. Depending on dress (time of year) it's in either an Alien Gear super tuck or a Raw Dog Tactical if I have on a jacket.

If I'm wearing a jacket or hoodie I carry OWB if just a t shirt I carry a shield or something compact IWB. If I'm carrying for PSD or high profile its always OWB and a full size pistol or rifle with several reloads. If I was PSD at a church I'd definitely carry a full size OWB and a couple reloads with a suit coat

I carry an M&p shield with clipdraw attachment in my sports coat and OWB 1911 coat covers also. Without coat it’s just the shield. The clipdraw really makes it very fast to draw.

Sig P238. Not the most fire power but better than nothing at all. Easily fits in pants pocket too.
