Ok. I have had enough fun with y’all. Now a serious question, if a scholarship player leaves early, should he have to repay the school for the tuition he has accumulated? Seems like they have breeches a contract of sorts. It wouldn’t be a huge burden considering they are off to make millions however, it would teach them a life lesson.

I think all athletic scholarships should be eliminated completely.
You want to put everyone on a level playing field? Make it like high school, coaches play the players they have.
Go to college for an education and play sports if you choose.

In my personal opinion, no. If a player was good enough to leave early for the league then the school likely benefitted from them attending (they clearly would have played in the season and likely were big contributors so the athlete did his part in putting butts in the seats). To ask a player to pay it back because they left early seems cheap. The athletes that go on to the NFL already made that school waaaaay more money than the cost of their “tuition”. And if you were to put a payback clause in for one sport wouldn’t you have to do it for all sports? I mean the basketball guys only have to play for 1 season before they can leave. Football is longer than that. What if a kid wants to go pro in golf, should they have to pay it back even if it’s a non-revenue sport?

"non revenue sports"?
Why would a college even offer that kind of option.
If you want to participate in a non revenue sport, join the military.

Nope, bigger question for me is why kids leave early when they are not projected to go in the first round.

The last pick in the draft will earn $500k per year. Better than any college degree you can get.

Been saying this for years! I like it. Coaches can recruit too if they want. Just no scholarship. Play whoever you have.

But if he can go from last pick to first round that would be millions of dollars worth of difference. That’s if he can improve that much with one more year of college. He could get hurt his senior year and get nothing. Chance you take by coming back.

I don't see a need to repay them. The school knows they can leave early. Heck, in basketball they can leave instantly, no waiting on their Jr year. The schools are making money off the players so, I think it evens out. As far as no scholarships, I also disagree. For one thing, you're taking away a lot of opportunity for kids to get educated and/or going pro that could never afford to go to school on their own.

Since scholarships are now given on a year to year basis there would be no legal way to make them pay back all four years. A scholarship would then mean football player would be indentured servants.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I reckon thats why they have to play 2yrs. I guess they figure theyve got their moneys worth after 2yrs.

Football, NFL rule. The player must be 3 years removed from high school. No other sports have that rule.

I dont remember what I was watching, might have been pregame or something but it was popping nfl players up on the screen and they were telling their names and where they are from. Several said a college and several just said a high school. I was wondering if they were getting kids straight out of high school or if there is some other step between high scool and pro and they didnt go to college. Anybody know anything about this?

Doekiller is correct. The player must be 3 years removed from high school. They do not have to go to college, but you can not go straight out of high school.

Im not arguing whether or not hes right. I dont watch pro football much but ive watched a little bit the past couple weeks. I was asking what is going on with the ones who dont go to college, where do they go those three years?

No, that is just a silly trend that some of the players started. They say their high school instead of where they went to college.

And not a single auburn player has announced they were going pro, except Brown and he changed his mind a few minutes later.

Huh? He's a senior.
