I bought my 10-year old a little soldering kit this weekend from Radio Shack and he’s been quite interested in it. Do y’all have any ideas what he could piddle with to get a feel for it? So far I have let him solder a few wires together and take some electrical components off an old TV remote. Kind of a random thing, but figured it would be a pretty inexpensive way to get him tinkering.

Teach him to strip and perfectly tin the end of wire. Once he watches and learns how the flux, solder and material interact and flow into the wire with right amount of heat, without melting any of the insulation... you can just about solder anything meant for soldering

I remember getting a 150-n-1 electronic kit from Radio Shack as a kid back around the 1970's that had electronic experiments and kits you could build. Fun as hell. I liked to tear down any broken gadgets too and see how it was built.

If y’all like audio, I think you can still find some cheap analog kits that would involve soldering. That’s a good way to learn a lot more about electronics and learn from mistakes to.

That soldiering kit has an arduino in it. My son played with one of those for a while. They’re pretty neat. Teaches you how to do computer programming with the basic electronics.

Start him out with an am/fm radio kit.
ebay link
It'll help teach him how to solder and you can help him read the schematics. When your done youll have a radio that he will treasure as a father son project.

Set up a little fan to move the lead smoke away from him so he don't inhale it as he works. Lots of kits out there that he could build and really get his interest/curiosity up.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Do you fish? If so look up Catfish and Carp on YouTube. He has a segment where he built home made ringers for his fishing rods. Basically a alligator clip and a bell soldered together.
