For people to say that a dog is just as important as their own child seems absolutely nuts to me. I've had dogs all my life and I never liked the dog as much as family. My labs 9 and my hunting buddy but, I don't love that dog as much as my kids. I'm not saying in the heat of the moment I may lose it and cap someone for shooting him right in front of me.
I absolutely think that for someone to say they would rather someone take a slug to the head other than their dog's just a waste of air. That would be 3% outdoorsman and rutabaga, just stupid!!!

I’ve raised some damn fine hunting dogs, many recognized far and wide, and had some great pets but they weren’t human. If it cost more to treat an ailment than it does to replace it, we’re going for walk.

Agree 100%. We've got 3 dogs and I'm real attached to one of the 3. Will be really sad when she dies. Having said that, if my family got hungry enough, I'd cook the dog.

I really am crazy about my dog, Sadie. She is my hunting buddy and almost constant companion. But she is a dog, nowhere on the level as my wife, children or grandchild.

She is not human nor will ever be valued or looked upon equal to my family. She's still my buddy though.

I was raised up in the 60s and if a dog couldn't hunt or if it killed chickens it was put down.
I have seen the power of a lap dog helping elder people with loneliness.

My Dad told me that he watched my Great-grandfather take some newborn puppies down to the creek and slit all of their throats and tossed them in. They didn't have excess food for the dogs and his family wasn't going to come second to an animal.

Parvo as a pup. Her name was Sally and would get birdie on a sparrow. Very funny dog loved to ride in my old Bronco. My children always have my heart strings.

I had an outlaw ask me what I'd do if someone shot my dog Taz. For ya'll that don't know, Taz was my K-9 Malinious dog. I said I'd shoot them if they killed my dog. He laughed and said "No, Really"...I said really. And I meant it. She saved my butt from getting hurt or worse a couple three times and I did mean it. And I don't give a shitt what anybody thinks of that statement. She wasn't my child, or equal to my daughters, but shoot that dog in front of me you had better have yer affairs in order.

That would be me. Sadie is my hunting bud.
