I took a vacation day yesterday to get some “honey-do’s” done around the house before going to the hunting camp for the holiday weekend and I got most everything done by about 2:00 yesterday afternoon. I asked my wife if she’d be interested in taking our 2.5 year old son, Emory, to hunt in the shooting house on our land adjoining my in-laws’ (10 minutes from our house). I knew it’d be a perfect afternoon to take him since it was pretty warm and I felt sure the deer would move well after the low pressure front had moved out. Anna obliged to the idea and seemed excited to get to go (I told her that she could do the shooting!).

I had taken Emory to the shooting house back in bow season (no weapon with us) to see if he could be still enough/quiet enough and he had done very well. He was a clown in the shooting house until the deer began coming out, but it was like he could sense that it was serious business once the deer began coming out.

Headed in to hunt yesterday:

In the shooting house (no phone, no toys, just his binoculars). Which, he hasn’t exactly mastered yet! Notice that his bino’s are backwards laugh

We had a heck of a hunt!!! “Mom” let 2 x 2 year old bucks walk and said she’d see one of our bigger bucks down in the woods. I never saw that bigger buck, but we waited patiently hoping that he’d come into the field before dark. He never showed, but a big group of does/fawns came into the field at dark. Anna picked out the biggest, nosiest old doe and made a perfect shot on her!! The 140 lb. doe made it about 60 yds. and was piled up right inside the woodline. This is a hunt I’ll never forget!!! We sure made some great memories!!!

By the way, yes, we’ve been trying to kick the pacifier!! But, he has major withdrawals from time-to-time lol. I wasn’t taking any chances of him having a paci withdrawal fit while we were in the shooting house rofl

Great story - Beautiful family.

I love the binocular picture, it wasn't a mistake - Emory was trying to view it from a little farther away thumbup

Congratulations to "Mom".
