Dreamland ain't been good since the old man died. Robertson's in Fosters is the best in the area to me.

Sam's Smokehouse in Fayette has great ribs, just like Shaw said. thumbup

Original Dreamland is still okay.

The franchise locations, like the one in Northport, are horrible.

Never had Ms. Renee Robertson's ribs but her pulled BBQ is good.

The ribs at the one in Birmingham were tough as shoe leather. The one and only time I have ever eaten there. I even had a talk with the manager about it. I tried to tell him how to cook ribs. He calmly explained to me how "they" cook ribs and I told him, "Well... You're doing it wrong." grin

They don't slow cook them for tenderness, they're cooked on the pit at Dreamland. If it wasn't for the sauce, they would have never become famous.

I love the sauce. The ribs are tough because they cook them over direct heat. I personally don’t care for ribs that fall off the bone. I like some pull to my ribs.

I've never been into a Dreamland restaurant, but have ordered the sauce a couple of times, it was not all that great to me.

The Mobile location has gone to the dogs in recent years too...not that it was special to begin with. Last 2 times i spent hte rest of the day picking rib meat out from between my teeth. Not again...

Dreamland in Huntsville is a mighty poor representation of Southern BBQ.

We lived not far from there when we moved back in 1994. Loved their BBQ. That potato salad was some count, too.

I've only had their food twice, and both times the ribs was like shoe leather.....

Me too, which is why I cook mine over basically direct heat in my Kamado. But I still cook them slow. I don't want them to be fall off the bone, and I do like fair amount of pull and chew to them, but Dreamland is like gnaw off the bone... Terrible.

I ate at the original one on Jug Factory Rd back in 2011. Ribs were tough. Not impressed at all.

Well don't now. The original one was good when Big Daddy was still alive and sweating over the pit and the only thing they served were ribs with white bread. The drink options were a canned Coke product or beer.
