Put my truck in 4H the other day and it would hardly steer. Was hard to get to come out of 4wd too. Now when I’m driving at about 70 it starts shaking and feels like it’s “mechanically” missing or slipping. The steering wheel is not shaking like it’s out of alignment. I was going to tow my boat today but not sure now. Are those just coincidence?
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

Doesn't some of the Ford systems require the transmission to be in neutral in order to shift out of 4WD? Especially four low.

Doesn't some of the Ford systems require the transmission to be in neutral in order to shift out of 4WD? Especially four low. All of them have to be in neutral to shift in/out of 4L But you can shift in/out of 4H on the move.

Put it in reverse and back up 10-20 feet. It may be stuck in 4wd. That may pop it out. I think you were right. It really didn’t do any thing when I backed up all the way around the parking lot, but when I stopped, put in neutral and went in and out of 4H, it made some pretty righteous racket. Seemed to drive much more normal after that but still shudders some at 70. It almost feels like it’s partially still in 4wd if that’s possible. What’s also weird is there is a thin coat of oilish dirt over my entire tailgate but nothing seems to be dripping. I just drove 1200 miles so that could be anything. I’ll let the gearheads in the shop have at it tomorrow, got my boat back in the cradle!

Ever since the first "shift-on-the-fly" systems, I always shift out of 4wd while moving forward, shift to Neutral while coasting, shift into Reverse, back up, and back to Neutral while coasting. Makes sure everything has a chance to get unbound.
