I've slowed way down on all the aluminum and fab work, and have shifted gears and been fooling with the knife making for several months now. I've got a life long well known maker in Louisiana that has taken me under his wing that I have been learning as much as I can from.

At this point I'm still just making them to give away to close friends and family, but hopefully after this deer season is over I'm going to try and start selling a few. Been fortunate to have already killed two does and a hog since bow season came in, and it has been pretty cool to get to clean them with my own knives.

Anyway, just finished up these two for me and my dad. Was his birthday yesterday and I was able to give him his for his birthday gift. The handles are actually made from whitetail sheds I've found at our lease in Alabama over the years. Trying to cut up the sheds into pieces that would work certainly added an extra layer of difficulty.

Like the bolsters and the lanyard that piece of antler on the leather while decorative would annoy. What sorta steels you using? Don't mean to "sound" critical it's pretty work just asking.

Theses are both made from O-1 tool steel. both came in at 63 Rockwell after initial heat treat, and ended up at 59 Rockwell after tempering, which is about what I was hoping for, and consistent with what I've been getting out of the O-1 so far.

I've got all the stuff to start the cryo side of hardening with some of the cutlery stainlessness, I've just got to upgrade the controls on my heat treat kiln to handle the ramp up in tempts better.

I agree with the lanyard, it looks cool for the pictures, but will be coming off the knife once it goes into service

Yes, I'm making the blades. They start life as 1/8" x 1 1/2" mill finished flat bar. run them on the surface grinder first. They are hollow ground all free hand on a 16" contact wheel.

I used to build knives using blanks that I purchased, but lacked the skills, knowledge, and tools to do metal working to “create” a knife.

I really like the blade design - FANTASTIC WORK!!

Thanks for all the kind words!

I'm really enjoying the process. I hadn't realized how burnt out I was on the whole boat building and welding deal. I still love making stuff and creating things from scratch, and this has been a lot of fun.
