Coyotes kill the chit out of deer, mainly fawns. I know of someone that had a trail camera placed near a den a few years back. Over the course of a week, he had over 60 pics of dead fawns being brought in. How does that prove coyotes killed them? Every year, I haul a dozen dead deer off the road, near my house, and the peach orchard. Does that prove that I killed them?
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

It's funny to listen to all the folks who think coyotes dont kill deer. I don't know anyone who thinks they "don't" kill some deer. Experience tells me they are not the predator that most people think they are. Coyotes are primarily scavengers, eagerly willing to take advantage of an easy meal. I'm willing to bet that I spend more time outdoors, than the average guy, and I've consistently observed that areas with the most Coyotes also have a high deer population. You could argue that is the number of deer that attracted the coyotes, but this trend is constant, year after year, with little noticeable change. Now that doesn't mean that I love coyotes, because I don't. I'll kill those turkey egg sucking scoundrels every chance I get. I'm just encouraging folks to use their own common sense and experience, without falling for the market driven propaganda. I tend to agree with your line of thinking

For years, I heard many people say yotes don't kill a lot of deer. Bullschitt, I always said. The current research along with anecdotal evidence suggests they are hell on fawns.

I have spent thousands of hours IN the woods during fawning time over the last 25 years. I have seen fawns born dead, dead after two days, stuck in a hole dead, and hung by a back leg dead. I'd estimate that 10-20% of newborn fawns die from non coyote ends. Maybe yotes find them, maybe buzzards do, but yotes are capable of killing a LOT of fawns.
When I worked for the enclosure off 20/59 we had ONE big make note kill 70-80% of one years fawn crop and kill EVERY DAMN FAWN ON THE PROPERTY THE NEXT YEAR. NOT ONE FAWN MADE IT TO TWO MONTHS OLD. NOT ONE. We finally shot and killed the vote , he had escaped every trap, etc that was laid out for him for two years. Habitat was marginal for hiding fawns. Extreme case but it shows what a determined note can do under good(for the vote) conditions. He also killed a number of adult deer also.

Learn to trap the coyotes, trap them hard for 3 years and tell me at the end of those 3 years you don't have more deer, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels and quail!
Bottom line, if you take out predators you'll have and see more game! That's not a theory, that's a fact!

My father in law used to raise goats. Yotes took 30 in one week.

I don’t dispute that yotes do some damage, but I just don’t subscribe to the shoot them at every opportunity mentality. If someone can do as you’re describing and trap year round, then yes it will make a positive impact. But shooting a handful a year during deer season won’t make a dimes worth of difference.

Okay...strange question...are there some circumstances other than availability of food that make a certain area undesirable as hunting grounds for coyotes? We have 55-60 acres, mostly wooded, that adjoins several thousand acres of river bottom that never gets hunted. When we had cameras out, we had about a dozen "resident" does, a few yearlings, and the occasional buck wandering through. Great crop of fawns every year. Over the 3 or 4 years we had cameras out, we had one pic of a coyote...a HUGE male. He was apparently just passing through, though...never saw him again, never found any sign, and never hear any singing at night. After the cameras were removed, we've kept goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, and ducks, and have never had a single animal lost to any predator.

I would add that we used to have 80 additional acres across US84 from this land, and about 20 years ago, I did hear coyotes at night over there. I dinged a dozen and a half or so in about 3 months, and if there were any left, they vacated the area and have never returned.
