I was raised in a UMC church too and their stance and support of homosexuality is why I am no longer a Methodist. When a church doesn’t stand for Biblical principles they stand against them. That’s not open to interpretation. I just left a SBC church for that too, although not the homosexuality issue.

True but a lot of the pastors against this new direction also have retirement tied up in the church and risk losing it if there is a split. A big mess indeed.

I’m sure there are churches that are outraged but they’re still part of the organization, taking orders from the church hierarchy, doing what the leaders tell them they can and can’t do. There is no autonomy in the UMC. The churches are going to have to decide which is more important, the Bible or the financial security of the big church. I have just been and am still going through a monumental spiritual struggle. In the end we either for God or against God. It’s all or nothing. There is no in between. Scripture backs that up. James 4:4

James 4:4 They're still part of the organization because they're trying to salvage it instead of just bailing. As of the most recent vote a few months ago, they still voted to NOT ordain openly gay/lesbian clergy. The fight isn't lost yet. It doesn't look good, but it's not lost. If/When they (as a whole) do vote to ordain openly gay/lesbian clergy, that's when you're likely to see it split.
