Thanks for all the input!

Surely somebody knows a guy they’d vouch for to do this work in Jasper. I don’t have the time nor the patience for it.

My insurance didn't cover it. Didn't find it in time. Had to replace some of the floor. Moved the wall to make the shower bigger.
Sorry don't know anybody up there

More than likely the membrane was laid flat on the subfloor so the mud bed never completely drains . Plus it will sweat. A pre mud bed between the subfloor and the membrane makes all the difference in the world..plus a little silicone above and below the drain.

As a former 3rd generation master mechanic in the installation of ceramic tile, marble, granite and stone everything bama1971 has posted is 100 percent correct. I've torn out hundreds back in the day and the majority of shower pan failures are do to improper installation of the pan or wear in the case of old lead or felt pans. But those took a longer amount of time to leak due to the mud set over metal lathe that was the common method before backer board and bag thinsets. The old method would also put you in an early grave but it separated the artisans from the jack legs. Not many know how to work a hawk and trowel much less ever seen one.

Also insurance may cover it but the adjuster will determine that based on his field inspection. If he determines it failed due to poor craftsmanship and not a product failure then you are SOL.

Yep. The American National Standards Institute for the installation of ceramic tile clearly shows the proper shower membrane install. Heck it even has pictures. But I was constantly amazed by the lack of this knowledge in the tile industry. And those to cheap to do it right because it would take two steps ( trips ) instead of one. There's a reason that there are weep holes on the drain flange that fastens to the rubber pan.

I've seen dozens with that same issue. Often it is the glass and door track that is screwed into the top of the curb...the screws haves penetrated the pan that goes over the curb....if they sealed the screw holes then maybe the sealant is old and not working anymore.....or the pan didn't go over the curb at all....or cut at the corner where it goes over the curb.

9 times out of 10 those are the issues WHEN your leak is where it is..

Yeah those weep holes are important. Bet when the shower in the op is torn out the weep holes will be clogged too. I put a small donut of pea gravel around my drains to prevent clogging.

Also the efflorescence in the grout joints is a sure sign of problems in the near future. It's salt deposits from the cements due to the water trapped in the product.

Efflorescence is a condition where white (salt) deposits (in the form of a fluffy powder) form on the plaster surface. The formation of salts is usually a sign of excessive amounts of moisture in the back-up material, such as brick or concrete.

If your insurance won’t cover this you should find a new carrier.

That's the truth.
My place is absolutely tiny and it still feels like there's always something that needs done.

Currently needing to replace the garage door opener and recaulk the shower.

I’m not home at the moment but the wife confirmed there are no screws in the bottom of the door track or on the sides near the bottom......but she is blonde and I’ll confirm when I get home later🤫

Thanks for the comments and keep em coming.

For all you guys using the schluter system, this is a step above. Will probably make their system obsolete shortly. https://showerpanstore.com/

The regular Schluter pan has a lot of slope in it. I was curious and put a 4' level on mine. Once the walls are covered, corners are in , all joints sealed , kinda reminded me of it being fiber glassed . Looks like it would be sealed mighty tight. That custom made one is a good idea but fit could be iffy and no telling the lead time and cost of just the pan. That Schluter stuff is high enough.

Been wondering why there isn't a system out there similar to Schluter where last thing you do is spray it with something like Rino Lining.

Makes me glad I went with a drop in shower. I had enough tile issues with a shifting foundation back in Texas.
