For example: If I pay for the room, she'll buy dinner, tickets, etc. Considering I make about 3x what she does; it's probably a 65/35 ratio with me paying more if I ever cared enough to nickel and dime about it.

She's happy with the arrangement and I'm happy with it. Why go changing it?

Whatever works for y'all is all that matters. The only time I'd kinda raise my eyebrows at it is the dude that's getting married and refuses to go to a joint account because he doesn't trust her. In that case, I can't help but think it's indicative of a bigger issue, but then that's not really my business either.

But, both of our paychecks are direct deposited into our "main" checking account, and all bills are paid out of it, along with day-to-day expenses.

MrsGomer manages all of our money, pays bills, etc............and, frankly, I like it that way. I suppose she could wipe me out tomorrow if she wanted to, but I'm ok with taking that chance in exchange for not having to deal with it.

We do the same. She likes accounting, so it's a natural fit. I guess she could leave and walk with it all, but it's near 20 years and she hasn't yet. Hell, if she takes it all, I'll just retire and be homeless.

My wife handles all finances/retirement/etc, I have zero idea how much money is in it, don’t know how to log in to find out. Don’t care really as long as she isn’t paying the bills. My spending money is in my front left pocket

I started with BTNB, then it became SouthTrust, Wachovia, and now Wells Fargo. (Yes been with them a few years) Only problem I have had and it was small is when Wells Fargo took over. I have six accounts. Went to the branch manager she corrected the problem and has been good service since. No complaints.
Oh also wife and I have joint accounts. After we married she was the one who took care of the bill paying. One evening I made a bad comment about how she did the job. Guess what? She picked up all the paperwork dumped it in my lap and said, “it’s your job now” 23 years later I’m still doing it.

Coosa, if it isn’t resolved send me your contact and I’ll screen shot original post and send it to a buddy at local Wells Fargo who will take care of it.

Reason for joint account-maybe doekiller can explain more in detail. But I'll go nutshell.

My Father in Law passed away suddenly about 10 years ago. He had always had everything personally pretty much in his name. He brought home a paycheck from our company. When he needed "extra" money he pulled if from various places. When he died and his will was probated, our lawyers had left out some very important paragraph in everyone's of our wills. The judge locked down all his assets. The money could be used for company day to day business but since my mother in law was not employed... she couldn't even get his paycheck. After a very healthy bond and about 6 months it was resolved.

Since she was not on any of the accounts, nor owner of any of the businesses the banks would not allow access to "her" money. And it was not just any banks, it was bankers that we know personally.

Very soon after his funeral, the lawyers call us all in and added the paragraph to each family member will.

So, I could see Coosa1's issue here.

Just tell her to get a cashiers check for all the money in the account. After the account sits at zero for a few days, close it. That is how I always closed bank accounts.

This from 2014: I had terrible service, My wife and I went into the WF Alabaster branch to close two small deposit accounts. The branch manager was busy entertaining two male co-workers in her office and seemed put out that we asked to be helped. The branch manager asked for a drivers license and credit card to up-date the account - the account we were closing. The branch manager took us to a teller who asked for the same information and then said "thank you, have a good day." We said where is our check? The teller says what check ? THE ONE FOR CLOSING OUR ACCOUNT! "Oh" says the teller. We then get two official checks - with the WRONG name on them. They reissue the checks with the correct name and we are out the door after about 45 minutes. We are driving to Pelham and my wife asks me "shouldn't they have signed this official check?" They had given us a $10,000 official check with no signature! Back we go and finally get the check signed by the very rude and unhelpful branch manager. Finally we are done and out the door - for good. I will never darken the doors of this place again.

I closed one last week, and asked for cash. The manager came out with a panicked look on her face and asked me if I could wait until tomorrow. It's absolutely insane, the paperwork they have to complete just give you a few thousand dollars in cash money.

Wells Fargo is biggest POS bank ever. My dad had his accounts there and what a cluster it was to deal with the accounts when he died. Even with POA before he died and death certificates and executor of estate proof afterward, it took dealing with several bonehead bankers and trying to cut through a lot of red tape and we still haven’t been able close things out.

If you don’t have a joint account with your spouse at least have a POD - Payable on Death- provision set up on the account.

Smart. Dad didn’t have this and one of the biggest problems we had was stopping the weekly auto draft of dad’s tithe to his church. They are the ones that notified us but they had no way of stopping it from their end. They offered to send us back the money they received after he died but we declined. It took about a month to halt the auto draft.

I hate to hear that. My dad recently passed and he has Saftey deposit box and a couple of accounts with them. Have started that process with them yet. Sounds as though it’s going to be a hassle.
