Had a guy come out to give me a quote on doing some dozier work this week. I'm needing three trees knocked down (two big bradford pears and one huge half dead pine tree), and a dirt pad for a single wide trailer put in. Also quoted me on digging a hole and pushing whats left of an existing building (old house that the FD is going to burn) off in it and burying it. Quoted me $3400 for the dirt work and trees and $1800 for knocking down/burying the house. Does that sound about right? I went to school with the guy and I trust him not to screw me over, I've just never had to have anything like this done so I'm not aware of the going rate on it. He'd have to bring in a dozier and an excavator for the big pine/burying the house.

Not to me. A D5 dozer gets $110/hr around here with a 4 hr minimum and all that sounds like maybe an 8 hour day, if that. BTW, it sounds like he needs an excavator for the tree's and digging a hole, and a dozer for the rest.

Seems reasonable to me. Sounds like a lot of work. Just get another quote if you think you can do better.

Unless he's having to haul in dirt, i'm telling you that's high as hell. I had an excavator push down 100 tree's and a dozer make a 100 yard driveway and level a 1/4 acre lot for $4000. So unless its going to take 47 hours to complete, your paying too much. 47x$110=$5170.

I always plan on about $1k per day. As far as how long your particular job will take, no idea.

That's the way I plan it, and after twenty years of using dozers I am pretty good at knowing how long it takes to do things.
And I always personally supervise and direct everything.

I am no dozer pro but have had some work around the farm done and that seems really high.Pushing over a tree/two bushes, digging a hole and pushing a burnt house in it just should not take that many hours, dang sure no more than 4 hours and that is generous. So $400-$600.No clue how long a trailer pad would take.Your guy would not be working for me.

Does he have a backhoe/excavator? I ask because, I too think that’s high, and was wondering if he is having to farm that part out, or rent one.

A trackhoe might be a better choice. I paid 125 per hour for some work a few years ago. Trees or buildings don't stand a chance. Plus hole digging is quick and pinpoint

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I had rather price by the hour, and throw in consideration the operator's work history.

Need more details. Is he building your pad out of topsoil? Or is he gonna cut a key to get some red dirt?

4 hours really? You don’t even know how big the building is or what the foundation is?

Sounds about 1,000 to 2,000 too high to me , unless he's hauling in some chert of something for the pad.

Last time I had trees cleared and buried about 2009 it ran $1800 and was done with both an excavator and a dozer. Of course I got the friend discount 10 hours at $180 for both. This was 7 rows of pines. If I had to it today the most reliable guy charges $180 an hour just for a dozer with an 8 hour minimum. Not having a friend to do land clearing and road building is terrible.

Must be location, taking out 3 trees (dead pine and 2 bradford pears) , building a pad for a singlewide and burying what's left of a burned house won't cost nowhere near that in Jackson Co.

No way in hell I’d pay that. Cut the trees down and pile them up to burn. Have the FD burn the house and call someone else to bury it and fix the place for the mobile home.
