I know where it is but never hunted right there. I do know several people who were and may still be members there.

I hunted with them for a couple of years when they were leasing Portland Landing.

I hunt right down the road a couple times a year. My best friend grew up hunting there. There used to be a big group from Jasper involved with that club (Myers, Turners, O’Rears and Fuller) Benny Fuller is a turkey killing machine. That the same clan of O'Rears in Jasper that Ray O'Rear belongs to?

Isn't that the place that Charlie Duckett more or less managed? I know he was down there and I remember meeting him, but I don't remember exactly what he did besides hunt down there.

My late Daddy was also a Charter member....Tom Edwards, After he passed in '73 I started hunting closer to home and dropped my membership.....Originally had 10,000 acres leased from Miller Lumber Company for 25 cents an acre!!! Miller had some jam up good holdings during those years. My father worked for them for a period of time and they allowed employees to hunt a 1,000 acre tract near Jefferson on the backwaters of the Tombigbee that was loaded with deer.

Duckett was a professor at Wallace state in Selma at one time Yes, Charlie and his wife Doris are great people. They lived very close to the hunting club so he kept an eye on it. I know he knew the property well but didn’t know if he had some type of management role in it or was just a member. He retired from teaching and I think Doris is now retired also.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
