Saw an item in my yard that looked familiar. Sure enough, the dang 1/2 lab, 1/2 Australian Shepard puppy my son brought home has chewed the pull start cord off of my push mower.

On the plus side though, she dug up a beautiful little black Chert Hamilton or Durant Bend point type in my back yard. As thin as any I've ever seen except it has one little ding on a corner. As thin as it is there is virtually no way to find one without a ding.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Our lab chewed quite a bit also. Just have to keep the busy. But after all that chewing misery they turn into the the best sidekick that young man can have. This was my son and Raven this afternoon. She will ride by his side the whole time we are working in the garden. [Linked Image]

Mine loves to chew up Amazon boxes. Luckily, it only took 10-12 before the wife figured out this wasn't a good deal. It's saved me a bunch of cash.

You want that one who borders on WFO but can still be controlled. That one makes a great retriever.

My lab/walker mix is the absolute best companion for my three young boys I could ever ask for. First year sucked with the chewing, went thru 2 mower pull cords. Not to mention the digging

My college roommate and I decided it would be a good idea to both get lab puppies after we moved out of the dorms. We ended up with 8 week old litter mates. They pretty much destroyed our little house. We went turkey hunting one morning, and when we got home they had torn every blind vane off of the front window of the house which was probably like a 10'x6' window. On top of that, they had chewed the vanes into about a thousand pieces. Kids in college dont need puppies

I'm still looking for a downside...

I have a 6 year old chocolate, and a 10 week old black lab. You just have to show them what they can and can’t chew on. Plus, a puppy does not need to be left out in the house when you’re gone or unable to watch it pretty close. Put it in the kennel if there’s a chance of it getting into trouble.

Fortunately I never had this issue. I did however keep mine in a crate or in the backyard with other dogs. My problem with a dog in college was when Jack got a bird dog that only knew kennel life so it chit all over our porch because it only knew to chit and piss on concrete.

I have had two. First one I got in 1990 when I went to Auburn. Left him one weekend when I went home and neighbor fed him. I came back Sunday night and he had gotten on top of table in out laundry shed and chewed the end off my Olt goose call and a pair of docker shoes the chewed the side leather strings off but left the laces. Not a clue why. Second dog I got was in 2004 and ended giving him away because of no time to train with new baby girl. He chewed the steering wheel, brake pedal and the seat off my Cub Cadet mower. Takes on the average 1.5 years to get the puppy out of them unless they are trained weekly.

Labs dont hold a candle to a german shorthair pointer puppy. Pull start cord.....that is funny. Our late GSP ate a riding lawn mower. Ate the tires off the rims, no steering wheel, no seat, wiring, got the hood up and bent over. Also ate the A/C lines from the house to the unit, and pulled all the plants and pump out of the water garden. I went out of town and had my girlfriend (now wife) watch him. Told her to run the crap out of him in the morning and later in the day. She didnt cause it was raining.

Ah yes labs. The dumbest smart dog breed there is in my opinion.

My last lab pup ate about a 6 foot wide section of linoleum off of our kitchen floor. Also got up on top of my pool table and took a big runny chit right in the middle of it once. And then there was the time he ate a whole fleece sleeping bag, there were little piles of red fleece poop all over the yard for weeks after that.

My brother in law had a lab that pulled all of the vinyl siding off of the back of his house one day.

Same dog would also get a little too excited to ride in the truck... climbed up on the tool box and dropped a major deuce while we were sitting at a redlight in 6 lanes of traffic.

We lost our sweet Chocolate Lab Sadie about 2yrs ago. I think I'd speak for me and brother to say we wish she was back chewing on shoes. She was an amazing dog. Her mate Gunner (Yellow Lab) is headed on 13yrs of life and he is still full of life not like he use to but he still amazes me how much spunk he still has . He chewed up a lot of things as a puppy but has turned into a true Man's Best Friend; it's going to crush our family when he moves on.

I have one right now that has been the most destructive dog I have ever seen. Luckily she is now at a trainer for 6 months. I needed a break from her destroying everything.

After reading some of these comments, I feel pretty lucky that my youngest has only eaten a couple of water hoses and some sheetrock!

Had a lab that didn't chew hardly anything, she occasionally got a shoe or something but she was never a problem. I have a GSP now and it's the sneakest dog I've ever seen, at one point in time it ate 22 of my children's socks. Id find a few a week in a pile of vomit. She is just sneaky, I can get on to her now and she will run around to her kennel, 2 minutes later I see her head poking around the corner of house to see where I'm at... She almost 3 and has finally settled down to Mach 5
