Celebrities are good tomatoes but small.

I have yet to understand the fascination with Cherokee Purples. Half of the top half of the tomato make a big green core.

Very interesting thread. I love home grown tomatoes. I really suck at growing them but try every year, LOL!

Whatever tomato you choose to plant make sure to bust up a Tums under each rootball when you repot/replant the seedlings.

As long as it is grown in Blount County soil, it doesn't matter.
I quit trying. Too much sadness and heartache for me. Now I just suffer through a visit from or with the Mother In Law and raid my FIL's garden.

Purple Indian/ Cherokee purple are really good but they don’t produce a lot. Lemon boys are good too.

One tip for those who are newbies is: don't worry about buying those expensive bigger plants. The smaller ones in the six packs grow just as big. Pinch off the lower leaves and plant them as deep as you can.

Helps prevent blossom end rot... one of those things my Paw Paw always did. He's keep a pair of pliers and a roll of Tums in his pocket at planting time. Every hole got a Tums crushed in it.

Tums = calcium carbonate. Calcium helps blossom end rot.
