It’s much cheaper than replacing an $18k unit, but to each his own.

You need it if it comes off of a trailer in a wreck, or while traveling too. Auto policy will cover a trailer being pulled by a vehicle but won’t cover the item on the trailer. My brother-in-law learned that one the hard way.

Also for theft, but you better pray that nobody gets seriously hurt or killed on or around it . Could end up costing in the hundreds of thousands. just sayin

I carry it for the liability. Very remote chance, but if someone jumped in it or on it like a kid at a club and got hurt or killed you need it. If you loan it to a buddy to go get a deer and he gets killed his wife could sue you. It is well worth 2-400 per year. An earlier comment was correct and important too. If your trailer turns over going down the road, your auto liability extends to what you hit, but not to fix or replace the machine. Doesn't take too much to total one of those in that situation. Worth the money for sure.

I got $60,000 coverage on my Gator and JD tractor through Penn National for a tad over $600 per year.

Just add it to your auto policy. 99% of companies provide great coverage at really cheap prices, plus that covers it just like your cars are covered (anywhere you take it, for all causes of loss, plus liability). Some companies do tailor their policies for ATVs / UTVs with optional-enhanced coverages for accessories and customization (many times your auto insurance doesn't provide this), but if you've just got a normal "stock" model then you're 101% fine on your car policy.

We write the majority of ours with our namesake company (Alfa), but when folks have the really tricked-out versions we'll put them with Progressive or Foremost because they offer the ability to give enough coverage for the $1,000's in custom accessories.

And just for informational purposes, your homeowners insurance provides up to $1,000 coverage for ATVs and similar units, but only "on premises" (so you aren't covered if it leaves the yard, so to speak). If you have a farmowner policy it will provide slightly better coverage, but you're still ALWAYS better to put it on your auto policy.

Mine for my SxS is through progressive. It is $240 a year for liability coverage up to $500,000 per incident, $15,000 in med pay and full replacement coverage for it and up to $3,000 worth of accessories.

$75 annually on 2004 Honda through Progressive. They also have my boats and jet skis, so I assume this is a bundled price.

Is it standard for these policies to cover theft? If so, are there restrictions on what property it’s stolen from? (For instance if it gets stolen from your hunting club?)
