Hey guys! After several request to post my story here goes. First off I grew up hunting Barbour management area with my dad and brother. We all took our first deer and turkey off this management area. I hunted that
morning only seeing two does. I left my stand on the tree for the afternoon hunt. As I was going in that afternoon I got to where I cross a steep creek about 100 yards from my stand . As I stood up on the other side of the creek I seen a deer take off about 50 yards in front of me . I knew as soon as I seen him he was huge. He ran to my right about 40 yards and stopped behind some trees . I put my gun up in the next gap in the trees and he walked out but kinda turned his head back toward my stand like he did not see me . I pulled the trigger and he mule kicked and ran . I thought I seen him fall as he was going out of sight but was not sure. I called my brother which was hunting down the road from me. He told me to not move he was on the way. Him and my dad were walking in together . To say I was excited is an understatement!! I set there on my knees preying I
got this deer. I could not wait any longer so i walked up to where I thought he was and started finding blood. I only followed it a few yards before I could see him laying in the leaves. He had fell as he was going out of sight just like I thought. As I sat beside him with his rack in my lap the tears of joy started rolling down my face. I called my wife to tell her to bring my son (hes 6) to the management area I shot my biggest deer ever.
My dad and brother showed up and the celebration began. When we finally got him out I drove up to check station and everyone was so excited . Its a feeling I just cant explain with words . The pics of him on alabama
wildlife and freshwater fisheries facebook page were from the morning after i shot him. I had took my orange hat off at the check station and they would not post them because i had no orange on. That pic was after the
deer was in my truck all night. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted pics and shared this deer. I still cant believe It !!

thanks guys! He was aged at 5 1/2 and rough scored 150". I was so in shock at the check station I dont remember all the measurements but I know they said 6" and 61/4" on the bases.
I have him in the big buck bounty in dothan and just found out I won the weekly prize. I am truly blessed.

I knew those had to be 5"-6" bases. Unreal mass. Congrats again. Very special deer.

Great deer JMertes! To do it on a WMA is even sweeter! But I have to say, threads like this always bring out the people that are just not very smart and it's frustrating as ever. There is nothing about this deer or the pics that seem off. I like how you got your family down to the WMA to celebrate with you too. Congrats again!

Stud buck deer.

Love that your family came. Mine would tell me to hurry up and get home and get that meat in the freezer and then hang up the phone.

Congrats on a fine buck, I know the guy that has the #2 buck in that contest really well. His scores 153” so I am curious if yours is going to top it.

Nice deer, glad you came aboard and shared the story. Too bad a few folks have to always try and come up with a reason to say it's of legit.

Ozarktroutbum he weighed 177 . Those were not my trail cam pics. While I was at the check station several people showed me pics of him on there phone . To my understanding those pics on Alabama wildlife and freshwater fisheries were from a study auburn university was working on at the management area. Muzziehead no problem man! I didn’t like the original pic myself.

Some guys pay huge $ for ranch hunts and canned hunts and don't take deer like that. Public land beast!
