The title may be a little confusing but what I'm asking is if a person harvested a 150 pound deer, how much meat should he expect to get back from the processor?

40 to 50 pounds. Roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of live weight.

According to the last processor I used, 5lbs. I think Ol’ man Out back is closer to reality though.

Not me...A buddy killed a spike last week and he got back 20 pounds from the processor.

I didn't/don't think he got enough back.

Granted, the deer wasn't weighed before he dropped it off, but just looking at it, I think he shoulda got back a little more than that.

The yield is directly proportional to the weight of meat the processor decides to keep for their own personal consumption and/or for later resale.

Could have something to do with the shot and how much of it got tore up. Add that to a 100lb deer and the processor taking a pack home to eat that night and 20lb would be about right.

Average about 1/3 +/- of live weight form several diffrent places if none of the meat is shot up.

Yeah it’s not different by size or weight.... you’re going to get 25-30% of the live weight of the deer in meat every time. 200lb buck means 50-60 lbs, 100lb doe means 25-30lbs..... errtime

Maybe i'm being naive, but I doubt they are stealing your meat. Think of the deer that don't get picked up, and the extra meat they're left with every year. I doubt they need to steal any.

Really depends on what all you save. Some folks will save neck bones and ribs. If you add 20-30% beef or pork with or without fat to sausage or hamburger you can get more and better tasting meat. Shots behind shoulders will yield more due to less damage. 100 lb deer should give you 30-40lbs of meat with bones more if you add other meat or fat for flavor.

Depends on size of deer, what you keep (neck and ribs vs not), where the shot was placed, if fat is added, and if the meat is dirty. It can be anywhere from 20-60 lbs depending on all those things.
