I carry my license and harvest record in my wallet, which I always carry with me. Why chance it? I don't carry my wallet when I'm hunting. I don’t carry a phone either. I just keep my license in my turkey vest. They need to make a sling with a secure place to store it.

Anybody here received a ticket or warning for no harvest record while hunting?
Had a friend get ticketed this weekend on his first hunt of the year. Had his license electronically (purchased from website not the app) and the old app (hadn't downloaded the new app). Didn't have a hardcopy license with him. (realized once he got home that he had last years licence and unused harvest record with him)
Downloaded the new app while talking to the warden. Warden told him it would have been nice to have that app downloaded before he walked up as he handed him his $300 ticket. Probably had a $300 signature bond.

I know I’ll get roasted for this but, it’s 2019. Almost everything is done electronically because it’s instant and so much easier if you just take a little time to learn it. I just bought a home out of town and done all the contract signing, negotiations, and closing by signing on my phone. It was so simple and I didn’t have to drive five hours for anything. I’m all for doing away with paper everything. In many cases, I agree with you...but this is not one of them. I hearby nominate the Outdoor Alabama/Pocket Ranger/whatever it's called App for the ALDeer Boycott List...........All in favor?

It's like walking outside barefooted and stepping on a nail, then you blame the shoe company. It's not hard to make sure you have your license etc for hunting. If you really struggle with it , you most likely shouldn't be in the woods with a gun to begin with.
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

I just keep my license in my turkey vest. They need to make a sling with a secure place to store it. I print about 5 or 6 licenses and put them everywhere one goes in the glovebox,4wheeler,boat,wallet,pack that i usually carry. if I ain't got one when a GW stops me one is not less than a few feet away.

How is that problem to be handled? Allegedly the app logs your submission, then automatically files it in their system once your phone connects to a cell or internet connection. But that was the issue I had back in January (that may have been the old app, to be fair), so I finally gave up and just called it in. Took about 15 seconds as I recall.

If I recall correctly, the new OA app didn’t come out until the summer. The harvest info is stored even without cell service and then uploads the data when a signal is obtained.

Ok, yeah that's how the old one was supposed to work too....but it didn't, at least in my case. Maybe the new one will work better, but I doubt it. I'll stick with pen & paper. Often, simpler is better.

I have a screenshot of my license in my camera roll favorites and in my notes. Also have a link to the pdf copy in my notes also. If I don't have service I can still show him the photo of it. I only hope this is acceptable. And I also have the OA app.

I keep telling y'all..................
Delete the garbage app(s). Aside from lots of folks having trouble using them, there's just no reason to give them that much access to information about you and/or your whereabouts (yeah yeah, I know......tinfoil hat and whatnot)
Print your license and your harvest record sheet. put them in a ziplock bag with a pen and stick them in your bag. Write the deer/turkey on it when you kill it. You have 24hrs (I think) to CALL it in and get the confirmation number and add it to the harvest report.
don't make it harder than it has to be.
I’m with Gomer. Paper. It works for me.

Took less than a minute to record the doe I killed Monday morning. I also have paper license with me too.

The app works with or without cell service.
Those carrying multiple copies of their license can be ticketed for carrying multiple harvest record sheets. Just an FYI. I used to do the same but the app is MUCH easier to use. I always carry my phone with me, cell service or not. Not around here it doesn't. It won't open without cell service or wi-fi. I've email the ADCNR office about the issue and haven't received a reply. I guess 2 mos is too soon to answer a question from the contact us section of your web page.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I personally have talked to Game Wardens multiple times this year and every other year I hunt. Each time they check me, as they should if they see I’m hunting, and as soon as they see I’m good to go we exchange pleasantries and go about our way. It blows my mind that every person that gets caught never REALLY was breaking the law it was just that mean old warden not knowing the law. It’s amazing out of all my run ins somehow I’ve always avoided the mean old warden and found a pretty nice and respectable warden that was just doing his job. Following all game laws to a T could help with that as well.... it’s really not difficult to just know and follow the law. My original post said nothing of the mean old warden (i see and speak to this warden regularly) nor did i say he REALLY wasnt breaking the law or in the wrong. Just relayed the story to see if others had any experience with it. I look at and interpret rules and regulations everyday. I understand the law is the law and a rule is a rule, but that doesnt mean i dont think some laws/rules are poorly written and interpreted like this one. I should be able to kill a deer, download the app or retrieve harvest record from truck, record it and then move the deer. The emphasis should be on recording it before moving it in my opinion..........but nobody has called to ask me.
