After reading OutBacks circle of life, it made me think of the conversation my wife and I have had about burial vrs. cremation. We both agreed we want to be cremated when the time comes...just a choice for us. It seems it has become more popular today than maybe in the past. I have two co-workers who died in the last few yrs that were both cremated. I had no idea they were going to be cremated. We have many family members buried over in Oakmond Cemetery, and we would stop by years ago, and put flowers on graves but has become a thing of the past for us.

My personal opinion (my opinion only) is most folks today probably won't visit the grave site much anyway.

I have attended a large number of funerals over the years who were buried in suites, jewelry, you name it, alot of crying and all. If I had to be "buried" it would be grave site service, closed casket, naked, and get it over with with a quick prayer.

I figure when were cremated the kids can come to the farm, and have a HAPPY party which is are request, drink some good red wine, enjoy a great meal, and sprinkle our ashes on the back 40.

What say you?

My plans are made. Cremation then ashes spread over my favorite lake by a member here. A very good friend.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

If being a dumbass was fatal some of you would be on your death bed!

I’ve said I wanted to be cremated. When the time comes. 75 years from now.
BUT it still seems very strange to me when I go to a visitation and it’s just a bunch of folks standing around and the
decedent’s body isn’t there.
I think I prefer a wake to a visitation. Maybe have preacher say a few words. If anyone else would like to say something. Have some refreshments and go home.

I told my family when I die I dont particularly care what they do with my body because ill be done with it, I told my boy he could tie a brick to me and sink me in the river and catch catfish off of me, or lay me out up in the field and shoot coyotes off of me, but they better not burn me. The Lord Jesus died so I didnt have to burn, and I do not want to be burnt, dead or alive.

I prefer cremation and to be scattered n the Gulf of Mexico. The wife won’t hear of it though because she wants us to be buried next to each other. That’s fine too because after all, it’s just the shell.

Yes, I agree. My wife and I have talked about this at length over the last few years. The "decoration" part of the visiting graves is just about gone. We can see someone of our kin via online media unlike it was back 20 years ago. Use to be you saw someone once a year (sometimes that was too frequent) at decoration. Now, families just do not gather like they used to. It is not right, but it is fact.

So, my wife loves the beach and I love the river. She wants to be scattered in the ocean and me, I want the river treatment where I grew up and now live. Is that right, maybe not. But, we will be together up in Glory. I do not want my kids worrying about cleaning graves, putting flowers out etc.

Cummins, I agree with your reasoning. Spread me out in the river where I spent so much of my life.

Just my $0.02.

I'm with you! seriously no offense meant to anyone in the Burial / undertaker business here...but I can't see anyone spending on my cold dead body the amount of money it takes to bury someone these days..throw my dead fat ass in the river and save the $$ ($$)

My preference is cremation, well really my preference is to be rolled into the swamp and let nature take its course, but since that is not legal, I'll go back to cremation. However, if that causes my family any grief, I'll leave it up to them.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I've always told my wife to cremate me and mix me into a bag of corn and pour it out behind the house for the animals to eat. Seriously though, just cremate me and use some post hole diggers to open a hole between my parents graves and I'll be good.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

There’s too much money involved in the death business not to mention most play on people’s weakness and sentiments at a low point in their lives. The cost of cremation has increased due to more people opting for such. Burials are taking up so much earth... For what so someone can come by for a few years and lay flowers on a piece of granite.

On the topic of decoration, I am on the cemetery committee at my church, and yall are right, decoration day is going down hill. We still have a great decoration day each year for the most part. We have people travel half way across the country to get to church on decoration day. The main problem is that 90% of those coming are old folks. Think about it, decoration day is all about paying respect, so in the world we live in today it is fitting that it is on its way out. To me, on the one hand I sure do love those gone on before me, but on the other hand they knew I loved them and they are gone and I dont believe they would hold me to keeping their graves decorated from now on, so im kinda on the fence about the whole decoration day thing. But I am teaching my kids about it and why we do it and I will let them make their minds up about it.

I’ll take burial. When Jesus rises us from the grave, if you have been cremated and there is a strong wind, I’m just saying.....

A good option is to donate your body to a University school of medicine for research and teaching purposes. Several family members have done this. The school will return the cremated remains to the family when they are done, but it can take awhile. USA school of medicine has had Dad for 14 months. They told us up front it could be a couple years. No hurries here. Dad is still helping people.

I'm guessing if God can save a sinner like me, he can also figure out how to deal with me being cremated.

He did start us with dust the first time so I see no reason it would cause an issue.

Cremation unless my family decides something else. At that point, I don’t care. Whatever is best for them. My FIL was cremated and I thought it was great. Saved money, made scheduling funeral easier, and ashes were spread in some of his favorite places.

Mrs. Irish wants to be cremated, mixed with concrete and become part of one of the artificial reefs off of Mexico Beach.

Me... i think it would be cool to have my body put on a boat with a bunch of tinder around me. Push that boat off into the water. Then have several of my friends with bows shoot flaming arrows out onto the boat and set it on fire. Then have everyone on the beach having a good time, drinking, telling stories and hanging out while me and the boat burn up off shore. That would be kind of cool.

Ford, one of our good buddy/friend/fishing partner died last year, his wish was to be cremated and his ashes along with his faithful cat, who was cremated after 22 years of companionship to be spread out in the Gulf.
So a couple months after his passing about 15 of his family and fishing crew loaded up on his boat, he lived on Cotton Bayou, went a couple miles off shore threw 2 wreaths in the water and put him and the cat in the Gulf, said a few words, talked about the good times, toasted a cold one, went back to the house and had a great time celebrating the life of a good friend. Not a bad way to exit this world
