This is going to be a full blown Charlie Foxtrot; for 14 months; and ALDOT time lines are not to be believed:

Most emergency road and bridge projects they do with early incentives/ LD for late deliveries end up coming in early. This one though is big big project. It looks like a lot of the substructures that could be starts already are I’m hopeful they finish early.

I think I heard on the news the incentive for this project was $250000.00/day. They make it if they are early, pay it if they are late.

I don't put much faith in them finishing early. On their 1st phase they got behind.

Always a good excuse for getting behind like weather, so chances of LD for that are slim and none. Also, who is making the schedule the State or the Contractor? If I can make my own schedule you can bet I will be able to beat it and make ALOT of free money!!

459 is going to be hosed too. In addition to any secondary roads that look to be a reasonable pass through heading back and forth in that direction.

I live in Trussville and I work at the Colonnade, so I usually take 459 unless I have a little extra time and then I go past Bass Pro and behind Liberty Park and come out by Blue Lake and the Water Pumping Station. It looks like I'll be taking that route for the next year or so.

I have no idea how all of this is going to turn out but is sure sounds like it's going to be a shytshow.

As far as detours go....Arkadelphia-Finley Blvd-Carraway....will be crazy busy near the construction. 459 will be....I don't even want to think about that. I'd be ok only working SOUTH of Alabaster for the next year.

Going to the washes I take care of in Bessemer and Hueytown is going to be fun.

Phase 1 was the Brasfield and Gorrie project that was the bridge repair and ramp removal on 65 on the north side of town. Phase 2 was the beginning of the large project with the new exit/entrance ramps around the junction. They did get behind, but turned everything over to ALDOT with roughly 4 hours before the deadline and that contractor did secure their completion bonus that I think was near $10mil. Johnson Brothers has phase 3 and there are some that think the bridge can be rebuilt in 12 months. Regardless of the duration, it is going to be miserable.

Pardon my ignorance. I too have seen all of the new road/bridges being built and have wondered what is the overall plan??? Will it make traffic better?

The elevated section that is being replaced is in such poor condition the DOT was left with almost no other option at this point. It's too,g to be a giant clusterphuck for months all over Birmingham for the next year but it has to be done.

Holy. Shucks.

Now all of that new construction near Finley/Arkadelphia off of 20/59 make sense. I go through downtown Bham multiple times weekly for work, this will make a nightmare drive even worse. I didn't think that could even happen.

I live in Hueytown and work in Irondale so I drive it every day. From what I've seen they are moving fast and have done everything they can in preparation for the closure. It's going to be a cluster but I expect they finish early if the weather cooperates.

They should have started way back up on Finley or next exit North and built roads on both sides 65 to connect east/west 20/50 to relieve malfunction junction. Too much in one area now.

So; our regional manager that lives in Nashville ; came up with the brilliant idea of moving our office downtown from our very convenient location in Hoover. He is the type that likes "urban " locations; if you know what I mean. The location is the old Hesco automotive building on 12th St and 2nd avenue So; built in the 40's. A CHITHOLE location. Right across the street from the concrete plant you see on 65 before the junction and smack dab in the middle of this clusterphuck. What a dumbass idea. Not to mention the occupational tax.
Guess I will do what the millennials do and work "remotely".

I make almost that same commute daily. Love 459 and my 13 min commute.
