I am not much of a Saltwater fisherman but I caught a 43 lb Black Drum last night and omg what a fight it was! So my question is are these good to eat being that big?

puppy drum (juvenile drum) are fine to eat. The bigger drum get wormy and have big bloodline in them so no, they are not very fit to eat in my book. Lotta fun to catch but we just turn those big drum loose after a quick picture, just like we do any redfish over about 10 lbs. i bet that one stretched your string for sure. Congrats on the catch.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Rule of thumb for most is if they still have a stripe, you should be fine.
Congrats on a good one. I have had some upper 20's and maybe a low 30 on inshore/bass tackle and it is quiet a workout.

The fish my wife caught that I posted was let go because of the worms.

Drum under 5 lbs are great. In fact better than redfish of equal size. Meat is much whiter than redfish. The big ones come with free spaghetti!
