This may not be true but a coworker who lives outside of Selma told me today, that since the Mayor has announce over 60 city employee layoffs, and has just in the last day or two announced the city will not make payroll to any employees this period, people have been going into stores filling up buggies with groceries and just walking out and some businesses have been closing. According to my coworker alot of the police force, dispatchers etc. arent coming to work since they arent getting paid so its pretty much a free for all with no police force to enforce the law. can anyone with ties to the area confirm if this is true?

If that's true about the theft, then i think the store owners should protect their business in what ever means they see fit!!

I've been out and about this morning and have seen nothing like that.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I'm pretty sure I would have done heard about it. I think the rumor mill is spinning.

I’ve been down there several days/ overnight the last 2 weeks. Although Mark’s Market was the only retail establishment I visited, I never saw or heard anything about this, and I was in the courthouse much of the time I was there.

The few police officers that we still have are working, except Collier. He never comes to work. No looting or anything of the sort was going on. Just the normal thievery. Dispatchers BTW, are not paid through the city but the county. That was my first clue that the original post was just rumors and not true.

For the record, Collier has been employed as the chief now for 2 years and has come to work less than 50 days. He is about to be fired by the council and his buddy Melton can't help him anymore. This is why he is speaking out about Ivey's alleged stroke. Hoping Maddox will give him a job if Maddox wins.

WOW, why can’t people just show up for their jobs? Just being there gets about half the work done.

In Collier's case he doesn't come to work because he is addicted to Opioids and the Mayor is OK with him not coming. loco

One of those truth is stranger than fiction stories. If i told the truth about all that is going on, no one would believe me.

So the problems in Selma are Maddox's doing?

No
He's trying to help out his friend Maddox so that when he gets canned if Maddox wins he will be given a job.

On the surface, it looks like Maddox is the one who is really causing the problems in Selma.

Melton became Mayor and hired Collier long before Maddox announced his candidacy. Now he is obviously talking to Collier and coaching him what to say about Ivey, and Melton may be getting advice from him, and other than a few stops here to campaign, I don't know how Maddox is behind our problems. They began when Melton was elected.

central ala,
Does Story stand a chance in the election? I would guess no. Then the crooked politics continue.

He'll have to have a lot of support in the other counties in the district. It is certainly an uphill battle which is a shame because he is a really good guy.
