Two weeks ago tomorrow I stepped on a 4 foot timber rattler while cutting trees at a friend’s farm in Verbena. Only the second time I have ever worn snake boots and I will never go without them again.

Got bit on the finger by a Copperhead in Sept. of 07.

I’ve never been bit or struck at, but I ALWAYS wear snake boots until it gets really cold. I’ve read stories, seen pics, etc. of folks who got bit... something like that has the potential to: 1) kill you, 2) put you in the hospital and have multiple surgeries (that is possible), or 3) make you miss the rest of hunting season. I ain’t doing any of that, so I wear ‘em.

I wear them sometimes when I’m doing work or scouting but I usually wear merrell hiking boots hunting in the spring and fall. I sneak better in them. I’m pretty careful where I step.

Once with chaps. Fall in South Carolina. Felt like a man punched my calf. Cottonmouth.

I should have been bitten by a dozen cottonmouths when I was a kid. Only the Lord knows why I never did. I don't understand it. If I were to do the same thing today I would be tagged for sure. I've been wearing snake boots for a while now and rarely see them. Chalk it up to not worrying about em much anymore. I still look for rattlesnakes but the bigguns bwill always let you know where they are. The diamond backs are getting pretty rare around here so I don't kill em anymore.

Snake boots are like insurance. You hope you never need them but really nice to know you have them.

Only reason I asked is my snake boots are out of commission and the only boots I have left are my lacrosse alpha Burlies I’ve never worn snake boots after November and usually just used them for work weekends and bow season. Just trying to decide if I want another pair or not

Had some close encounters but never been bit. I wear my Irish Setter snake boots even in cold weather. They're the most comfortable boot I have.

Actually, I have never been struck, that I now of, but my son has been struck by a timber rattle snake and a cotton mouth. The cotton mouth was between the 2 of us, it just happened to hit him. I wear snake boots all the time when i'm outside until the weather gets cold.

Lacrosse rubber boots won't stop a rattlesnake from getting a fang into your leg. Ask me how I know.....

Who knows...........I don't usually look down. I have always worn chaps, mainly for the dang briars.

Not boots, but Rattlers brand chaps saved me,

From a running Husqvarna. Only time I've ever worn chaps while cutting and only time I've ever hit myself with a running chainsaw. Those chaps stopped the blade.

Get some. Worth the insurance. Most are also very warm and waterproof.

One spring i walked within 1 foot of a timber rattler coiled up. I thought i was watchin where i stepped and close by me. He never rattled. Or moved. I walked by him without knowing. Turned around and back tracked about 5 feet and saw him. He could have hit me if he wanted to. No snake protection. Now i have chaps. It made me sick feeling.

One night me and popaw was out walkin in the mountains at night in hot summer just walkin with a full moon. We use to do that mostly in winter just to get out of the house. We decided to camp in a loggin road. We just layed down to rest on the ground. We had no fire. It was hot. Pop was using a card board box for a pillow. We layed there and started to doze off. He heard somethin easin through the leaves. He layed still. It was too close for him to move so he just listened. It came right up to his head and ran into the side of the box. He heard the tap just inches from his cheeks. He waited. It moved around the back side of the box then he turned on his light to see what it was. It was a 4 foot copperhead. We got up and went home lol

I was with a guy that got struck by a cottonmouth. One fang lodged in the chaps and broke off.

Of all the snakey ass places I have walked through in my life the only time I have ever been bitten by a snake of any kind was on the concrete boat ramp at the Marina in Millers Ferry. Pulling a boat onto a trailer and stepped on him walking backwards. Bastage latched on just above my ankle. Thank goodness it just turned out to be a water snake and not a cotton mouth. It will make you shart yourself though.
