Anyone have any recommendations on a good hand seeder/spreader? I have returned two Chapin 25 pound units within a few weeks’ time and am curious to know if there are any better options out there. Thanks in advance.

I think mine's an earthway or something of the sorts it's been good for a few years

I've been happy with this one. Yard Tuff on amazon. I read a million reviews before committing.

They are all pieces of crap because of cheap plastic gears.
I have gone through many of them over the years because of the plastic gears eventually stripping out.

I had to use one like these last year when we planted, and I would rather have my toenails pulled out slowly, 1 by 1, with a pair of pliers, than have to use one of those God-forsaken contraptions again.

had to refill it eleventy-billion times and half the seed ended up in my pockets or boots.

Using one of those is definitely an act of desperation, no thanks

I have one long narrow food plot in a bottom that I use one of those for sowing seed and spreading fertilizer.

But yeah is used as an act of desperation - when I have to re-seed for some reason (like wash outs) where I cannot re-plow.
Like I think I am going to have to do after that hurricane rain.

That 4" rain didn't do anything to the plots on my home place other than turn them green in about 4 days. One plot goes up a hill with a pretty good grade but it didn't wash at all. I contour plowed it across the grade rather than up and down it

Buy a Solo and never look back. It's been the best hand spreader I have ever owned. It will spread almost any type seed and really excels with the smaller varieties. It's a bit pricy when compared to other hand spreaders but it's worth every penny.

I haven't checked mine yet. Will see on Saturday. Fingers crossed.

I have a solo and an earthway and have had them for years. The earthway is close to 20 years old. As to the plastic gears, you can't crank them like a magneto when telephoning fish. It pays to understand the limitations of your equipment.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

That's truth.

I have a bad habit of being hard on equipment.
I just knocked another side view mirror off my truck in the woods - for the 4th or 5th time.
I knocked the tractor clutch out twice running up on stumps.
I knocked the rear wheel of my bush hog off so many times that I now just go without one.
And stripped the plastic gears out on three Earthway spreaders.

I think they should make a special tractor for people like me - put steel skid plates and side plates all around
it to make it impregnable, lol.

Those red ones don't last. I used to plan on two a year. They just don't make anything to last.
