My family and I are headed to Denver aug 9-14. Looking for ideas for things to do within an hours drive or so. Any recommendations would be great... we will have an 8 month old with us so family friendly options are preferred

It's a lot of fun and Coors Field is a really nice venue.

Denver Airport is a cool place. But it's a big city, that I just pass through on my way to much better places.

I haven't been since around 1970 so I can't really recommend any places but there were a lot of old western ghost towns close by. Golden Co. where they brew Coors was a nice place to visit. The Museum of Natural History in Denver was a great visit too.

Everything except the Nat'l Park in 30-45 minutes from Denver
Rocky Mountain National Park is a cool trip.
Downtown Golden is a neat place to visit and walk. A lot of cool shops and good eating.
Pearl Street in Boulder is pretty neat. A lot of street performers, good restaurants and shopping.
Baseline road out of Boulder into the foothills is a very cool drive. Very scenic, a lot of Mule Deer on the sides of the road. There are places to park and get out and do short hikes and get some pretty scenic photos.
The FlatIrons Vista trailhead in Boulder
Red Rocks Ampitheatre
My favorite places to eat in the Denver Metro area
Breakfast...Table Mountain Inn Grill and Cantina in Golden Get the Ultimate Skillet Cafe 13 in Golden
Lunch/Dinner....
D'Deli in Golden...Outstanding sandwiches, the Elk is my fave
Rio Grande Mexican in Boulder or Frisco (Best steak Fajitas ever)
The Post in Lafayette...Outstanding fried chicken and sides
The Cork in Boulder...Get the Wagyu burger...with Mudpie for dessert. You'll thank me later

Ride up to SteamBoat and do a Lunch time horseback ride. We originally were going to go tubing down the Yampa River that day until someone put their feet in the water the day before. Snow melt, about 55 degrees. We went back and found the trail ride. Saw plenty of mule deer, some with nice head gear and a bear, but no elk.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

We went to Boulder not long ago. Place has been ruined by the people that live there. Absolutely the rudest and most pretentious people on the planet. The Flat Irons was cool and the hike to the top was worth it, but not much else. Pearl St isn't worth the visit IMO.
Definitely go to a Rockies game. If it's an afternoon game, make sure you are sitting on the 3rd base side as it will be out of the sun. This was the highlight of our Colorado trip.

Ride the cog train up Pike's Peak, it's down near Colorado Springs.

Denver has lots to do. My wife lined up most of what we did.
We took a tour of Rocky Mountain National Park. We were on a 15 passenger van with 12 other people, I think it was $60 each or so. Go to 'The Stanley Hotel" while on the tour or find a tour that goes there. Pretty neat to see it since it was part of "The Shining"
We did a lot of walking downtown to see the building, architecture, etc.
Go see Red Rock amphitheater. It is carved from he mountain it is in and is a sight to see.
We used a car service from the airport in to the hotel and made friends with the driver. We got her cell info and just called her when we wanted a ride somewhere. Cheaper than taxi or car service and less liability than renting.
Other than that, there is a lot of good food around the main street that runs through town and plenty of shopping.
Oh, and Casa Bonita is a trip and if you have not been is a crazy/weird experience.
It is what it is.
Inspect what you Expect.

Ride the cog train up Pike's Peak, it's down near Colorado Springs. The last I heard, the Cog Rail was broken and they weren't sure it'd ever run again. They could drive up to Pikes Peak if they wanted.
