I thought I was over the excitement of simply seeing deer. I got to see plenty of deer this last season, and kill three with my bow. I figured after that, I'd stop getting excited anytime I saw deer. Maybe I just told myself that because I know this upcoming deer season will be completely different for me...

but man. I just stepped out on our deck and looked out in the field behind our townhouse and saw about 20 deer. Two big boys with some chunky velvety antlers. Really enjoyed sitting and watching them for a while, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about flinging about 20 arrows rofl

Do you still get excited seeing deer or do you not even give it a second thought?

Saw one in the neighborhood yesterday and immediately started getting excited. I’ve been hunting 30+ years.

Just came of the porch here at the Cullman Airport. Watched several deer across the runway on a grassy hill, they were just milling about. Almost gets the blood pumping for season!

I still get excited seeing them at first, then I settle down and get ready for business. But yeah, the first deer on each sit always gets the blood flowing.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Deer at our place in Selma seemed to prefer cotton over almost everything else.

Is there much nutritional value in cotton for deer or are they just after taste/easy?

I get pumped everytime I see a deer. Even on side of road, a field, etc.

I will say that over time seeing one on a field has lost the same feel as seeing one deep in the woods. There’s nothing better than being put away from the world deep in the thick stuff and seeing one magically appear and then slip and pick through the brush. Put a pair of antlers on its head and you have to check the ole ticker!

They're just modified goats. They'll eat anything regardless of protein content.

This!!!
And if it stops giving you those feelings then its time to hang your gear up and move along to something else. Drag racing gives me the same feeling. Nothing else

When put like that ya I should have thought of that. I guess I've put deer on a pedestal when really they're pretty much wild goats.

It depends on how close they first appear as to how excited I get. If they are already within bow range when I see them, my heart skips a beat or two. If they happen to have much bone on their head, then all the more so. Thirty something years hunting and a hunert or so in the freezer, and they still get to me. If that ever goes away, I guess I'll quit hunting.
