Well i don’t know if i would have died but i would have lost my boat. Was night fishing for crappie on Logan Martin Friday night and about 12:30 or 1:00 am i hear music blaring and an outboard going wide open and figure they are going to run full power 30 yards off my bow or stern like every other boat did that night. Anyway i turn to look And a pontoon boat is 30 yards from my boat coming straight at the side going to t bone us right in the middle. Right as I’m about to jump overboard, I yell as loud as i can and we start flashing our headlights at them and they turn about 15 or 20 yards from my boat. And before you ask, all navigation lights were on and the water all around the boat was lit up with crappie lights. It’s not like they came around a curve up on us either. They had clear sight of us for a mile. I sure wish they would patrol the river on weekend nights a little better and pull over every damn boat playing music after midnight. This was the first time I’ve been fishing during the weekend in about 3 years. I suddenly remembered why i only fish during the week. At one point there was another boat fishing maybe 75 yards from us (we were talking to each other) and no less than 3 boats ran between us on plane and we were in a part of the river that’s wide open. Rant over. We did keep about 30 big crappie

Yeah cmon. Daniel White

Should have fired a warning shot that’s too close for comfort.

Glad nobody got hurt. Seen it happen on Millers ferry on several occasions, but the law enforcement around there (In my area anyhow) is too busy citing tickets for not having the proper tags on your trotlines, u know the important stuff...

I went to Lay last Saturday night with my family and I was amazed at the number of boats on the water at midnight. Hard to tell if you are getting bites from crappie when you are bouncing on all the waves. I normally go during the week and I am lucky to see 5 boats. Glad y’all didn’t have to swim or worse.

Glad they missed you. I'd be willing to bet the operator couldn't pass a breathalyzer either. If you'll send me the GPS coordinates, I'll be glad to investigate this incident further. grin

JK. I would have to have the opportunity to hit the water first.

Yeah we tried to do some tight-lining (North of Gees Bend) a few weeks ago around midnight, and the amount of boat traffic was phenomenal.

What part of Logan Martin? I ask because my place is down at Rivers Edge Marina, right by the launch. I sit on the porch at night to around midnight, when I'm there. It would shock you at the number of cruising boats being launched after 10:00 p.m. I bet for every fishing boat going out at night, I see probably 4 cruisers.

Buncha drunks it sounds like to me f150. Im surprised at how many like you said. They probably go out there to drink at that time because they know they have a small risk at getting checked.

we went bass fishing last night on logan martin and we were catching fish off this brush pile so we just posted up and kept throwing at it.. a boat load of drunks pull of to the pier next to us (we have NAV lights on, moonlight, headlamps AND there is a street light up on the bank) and the guy driving the boat jumps off and goes to the edge of the pier, faces us and starts pissing slap he finally realizes what hes doing and says (in my best drunk voice) "ha ha, my bad guys, I never saw yall over there... did you see my dick?? I told him "I don't know if id call that a dick.. my little boy calls his a ding ding" everybody on the boat busted out laughing!!

Last summer on Logan, I was bow fishing on a moonless night. While running to the cove I was going to fish, I happened to catch an odd shadow ahead and slowed down. It was a dark colored boat anchored in the middle with absolutely no lights on. I pulled up about 10 yards away and flipped on all of my lights and handheld spotlight. A couple of teenagers popped up with the “oh crap we’re busted” look on their faces. I just yelled at them to turn some lights on before they get hit and left. It would have been bad if one of the bass fishermen running wide open looking at the GPS and not the lake had come by.

I grew up on LM, even back then in the 80's it was bad in the Summer.
But you could fish it at night with no worries.

Man that was too close for comfort. I've had two close calls on the water and both were at night.

1. I was fishing Mitchell one night and straight across from the launch there a little island that you can go through to avoid going way around the stump rows off the point. I was coming through there one night and turned to go through the opening between the island and the main land and some damn jack ass turned his lights on when I was about 30 yards from him. I had to get all in the grass and logs to squeeze between him and it's a wonder I didn't destroy my boat. I cussed that guy for 20 solid minutes.

2. The second time was on Lay. It was about 2 in the morning and me and a buddy were going down the lake to one of our honey holes. Were clipping along and I caught something go by in my peripheral vision just a few feet away and the wind noise in my ear changed. I let off the throttle and turned around and eased back to look and it was a pontoon boat full of drunk kids (all passed out on the floor) just floating in the middle of the lake with no lights on. We tried to wake them up and couldn't get a single one of them to wake up. I wound up hooking a rope to them and towing them to a little creek and boarded the boat and turned the lights on. We tied them to a tree and went on our way. Not one of them woke up that entire time.

The water patrol really needs to watch this stuff. They drunks know the water patrol rarely works at night. It's twice as dangerous as during daylight hours. I love night fishing, but prefer areas where idiots can't run.
