I didn’t see a punch in the video at all and I watched it 4 times. He open hand slapped her on the shoulder twice but I dint see a closed fist punch.

I don’t believe for a second a girls that size would have stayed on her feet from a punch from him much less 2 and punch would have damn sure left a bruise

While we always want straight , clearcut answers, in the answer to the question abuse or discipline, there is no clear cut line. When it gets towards the middle the line becomes very blurry sometimes. In this case though, I don't think the line is blurry. Striking about the head is out of line.

Another thing too is that when kids reach a certain age, and again there is no clear line, they respond to punishment like adults and no longer like children. Would you find it an effective punishment if you came into work late and the boss gave you a few smacks across the head?

This was out of line and shows that his officer has problems that will manifest themselves on the job in a very bad way. Time for Miami-Dade to cut their losses and encourage this man to find another career path.

As to the idea that this girl was a POS and deserved what she got, that may be true but she didn't turn into a POS overnight. Two things I hated to hear were "I know they were bad but I couldn't spank them because you would come and arrest me for abuse." and "I'm going to let y'all deal with them, I tried to talk with him but he just won't listen to me". The line I said more than any other in my Youth-Aid days was probably "This is a parenting problem not a police problem".

The video won't play on my phone, so I haven't seen it. But, from reading the article, and the comments here, he is supposed to be the adult. Not just any adult, but an adult that has been trained to deal with stressful situations and disrespectful people. Unless he is being physically attacked he has no right to act like what I've read. Even then, his training should give him the ability to restrain her.

For you guys that thinks it's alright to grab your daughter by the hair and jerk her around and than slap/punch them in the face is really PHUCKED UP in the head. I don't care what a child does you do not hit them in the face. Especially a young lady. Now if a boy want to bow up and act like a man, I will put him on his ass before he can blink his eyes but will not hit them in the face. If it takes hitting our daughters in the face to be a man, I guess I will never be one. It scares me to think what I would do if I saw someone doing this to a child. I know I would definitely be unemployed, in jail, or dead. It's just sickening to think some people thinks this is ok.

My brothers and I got beatings like that ,,,, never got a beating for the same infraction though,,, was always something new we did wrong to get a beating,, some times I got the beating for what they did wrong because I was left in charge.

I agree with Hoggin far too much talking to kids these days - parents saying oh -- , you have to know when to pick your battles . BS love your kids teach them to respect adults and authority - break the rules and I'll take it as far as need be for the daughter/son to act right .

Back in the day on those calls I’d take my belt off and give a 3 part block of instruction on the proper use of one, that wouldn’t fly anymore either but probably half the 30 something yo’s In Ensley have had me take a belt to their hide. Never got the first complaint about it.

Not saying I agree with what he did - we just don't know if this stuff is ongoing etc. .
I wouldn't have grabbed her hair or did anything the dad did and I don't condone it , but some kids can push people past their limits .

My cousin Debra I spoke of was one of the loudmouth/smartmouth young teens who should have got what she got 3-4 years before she got it .

I’ve also seen first class kids with some of the worst parents in the world, I went to live with my grandparents at 10 because I didn’t think my parents were on the right track.

I know a few people that turned out way better or worse than their parents raised them.

Of all my kids I’ve never had to get aggressive with but 1, none of them have ever been really disrespectful other than normal kid mouth or ever been in trouble. I think with a few it’s because they know it would disappoint us a few just because they are pretty sure I’d kill them and with 1 I think it’s just because he thinks it would be a waste of his time to bother with us. All raised the same way but people are different

There is never an excuse good enough to justify hitting a child with your fist, most especially a girl.

I bowed up to my dad as a teenager. He didn't punch me, but he did throw me onto the floor, sit on my back and wrap my arm up around my head. I'd had enough and never crossed that line again.
