How do Turkey Hunters occupy their time during the off season? I'm new to the sport and look forward to obtaining knowledge from everyone.

Wondering why we hunt turkeys in the first place and trying to find more places to hunt.

I like all the answers. I also spend my time counting down the days til next year.

I love turkey hunting, but it doesn’t consume my every thought until March-May. Elk hunting is like turkey hunting on steroids. I’m going on a moose/elk/bear hunt this fall. I’ll shoot some dove, take pictures of some deer, go on a rabbit hunt or 3, and maybe a duck hunt or 2. Other than that, I’ll drive and fly the country watching cheerleading, gymnastics, soccer, and dance competitions.

If you want to always win, never play anyone better than you!

Reminiscing the seasons past and hunts with friends/family; playing with the guns and fine tuning/making changes so it’s ready come go time, accumulate more calls from custom call makers, prep for bow season as I really enjoy bow hunting as well. Load ammo for deer season and play with guns in general burning powder.

I do a little of all the above. Mostly try to love my family like there’s no tomorrow. Never know when these gifts will be taken away. Enjoy it fellas.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

What n2deer said, even when I got married I didn’t let that bother my outdoor mentality of life. When I got into TURKEY hunting I sold a bass boat, two hobby trucks dang near everything except my soul to spend all my time scouting, patterning, and killing turkey. Had my first son 4 days after turkey season last year. He was born with cancer. Good Lord bout got it gone with surgery next week. But Turkey doesn’t mean that much to after a year of these circumstances. But by Gods grace he will make to be a turkey killer one day. So I’ll try my luck training a turkey hunter in the off seasons knowing all well I can tell him what he shouldn’t do.
