I found an old bone-handled machete of my grandfather's and I am trying to get a sheath made for it to give to my dad for Father's day. If anyone knows of a good person or shop I'd really appreciate their contact information. I'm not looking for any fancy designs, engraving, etc....just a good-looking leather sheath. You can text pictures to 251-454-1052. Thanks

Might try talking to one of the guys at Tandy leather in Hoover.

How long is the blade? I could probably make you one if black is OK. I have a side of black 14 ounce Wicket&Craig in storage.

The blade is 22" long, and 1.5" wide the entire length. It is much narrower than most machetes you see, that's why I think I'm going to have to get a sheath made if I want something that will fit it well. And at the moment I am looking for brown leather, Thanks RH Clark though, I really appreciate the offer.

No problem. 22" would have been a lot of hand stitching anyway. Probably would have had to use the money for a co-pay for an arthritis shot.LOL

If you want to make one yourself,I'll be happy to talk you through it over the phone. Just PM me.

My thought is that unless you just know somebody,or possibly get something made from Kydex, someone will charge you a small chunk for a 22" sheath. I wouldn't want thin leather just folded over and riveted. I would want a full welt all around and stitched with a rivet at the top middle and bottom on both sides. I would also want a belt loop but a dangeler loop attached to that as an option and a D ring on the side so you could use a shoulder strap to hold the weight or just wear it over your shoulder if you wanted.

if all else fails, go to a land survey supply store they sell them. There's one on 1st ave north and another off Oxmoor rd in Homewood.

Don't they just sell a stitched canvas sheath? With all due respect one of those is worse than useless. I would rather have one made from a piece of heated flattened PVC,than one of those canvas sheaths.

They sell the leather ones not the cheap green canvas ones. We use them every day and they hold up pretty good

Might be a good cheaper option then.

RH Clark, what you said about the shoulder strap and having a higher quality one is right in line with what I was thinking. I'm not too sure of it's origin but I think this thing is kind of an antique, so I'm leaning towards something like you're talking about there.

If you would prefer a seriously authentic looking deer hide scabbard, hit me with a pm. I’ve made a good many, and they look like something Davey Crockett or Daniel Boone might carry. My grandad taught me the process when I was a kid.
Not quickly made or done for nothing, but everyone I’ve made them for love them.
Hit me with a pm if you’re interested, and I’ll kick you a photo of one I made about 35 yrs ago.
