"found not competent" and "actually not competent" don't necessarily mean the same thing. "Found not competent" are just courtroom words. I stand by my statement... Normal, rational and sane people don't go into schools and shoot kids, under ANY circumstance...

Have the full time National Guard of each state have a civil service duty rotation at each school protecting the perimeter and entry points. Just as if you were attempting to enter a high security military installation is about the only way I see it being effective. The key to this would be a "rotation" meaning a set time 3-6 months etc. and a supervising chain of command to make sure all protocols were being followed, as well to make sure said protectors did not get content or feel undervalued in duty. School systems would have to figure out the best way to adjust to the changes as far as entry and departure of students to and from. Extreme yes, but you don't hear about mass shootings on military installations very often with the exception of Fort Hood that I know of.

Gated campuses, go through guard shack to get in. If you dont have a ID card, you dont get anywhere close to the school. I guess this would not prevent a sniper attack but it should prevent shooters entering schools. It would cost the price of a fence and somebody to sit at the gate. Could be automated i suppose and eliminate the guy at the gate. My thoughts too. Fence the property and put a guard at the gate. Search bags. Train and arm teachers. Treat it like a Military Base. ID's and Guards, perform random searches, unless your a red flagged student. Nonetheless, arm half dozen of the teachers. I just THINK to myself what would the outcome had been if the football coach who was killed was armed, if I remember correctly he was one of the 1st ones shot and on scene, the results would have been vastly different had he pulled out a gun and ended the shooting before it happened.

An elite force that is a combination of retired Special Forces, retired SEALs, and SWAT forces. Numbers of team members depend on size of school. Profile, profile, profile. Strict entrance and exit protocols. If we start killing a number of these evil bastages, they are going to think about finding another target. Take down every single "Gun Free Zone" sign and ship 'em to the recycle center. Get God back into the schools. Get discipline back into the schools. Amen brother!!

What about a volunteer security team? Ask around the community for a couple of folks willing to take that responsibility on for themselves. Have them submit to a background check, or even have a 1 day training/vetting process partnership with the local Sheriff office. In this scenario, I am picturing maybe 2-3 dads/grandpas that are retired and willing to come hang out on campus during the day. Cost involved: less than $100 for a few t-shirts/ID badges to make them identifiable and let them eat lunch in the cafeteria every day.
Could they cover all areas all the time? No. Would they be there every day? Maybe not. But... if they roam about campus and are known to be there, it would make the planning for a premeditated attack a little more difficult.

I still like the idea of issuing municipal bonds for school districts to hire additional police officers dedicated only to working in schools. We use them for roads and infrastructure, why not this? I also still say we need a program similar to "see something, say something" to report weird behavior on social media. These things don't just pop up out of nowhere. There are usually warning signs galore, people are just afraid to say something and the people capable of investigating probably don't know how to approach it. I see no constitutional crisis in a psychologist reaching out to a kid who exhibits behavior like every one of the perps of these acts exhibits.

In addition to issuing bonds, I wouldn’t be opposed to ALEA setting up a division of the police academy dedicated to training school officers. It’s still a part of the academy but teaches the officers to specifically handle these threats. This is obviously complicated. But, the solutions to a complicated problem are rarely easy. We need to stop looking to Washington to fix this. As I said in a post yesterday, this is out of reach of any public policy. There just isn’t any we can come up with. The best thing we can do is identify these threats early when they are posting twisted stuff on social media or combat the threat when it slips through the cracks.

3000 students trying to get through one entrance before school starts is asking for trouble. Talk about target rich enviorment. In a school with 3000 students they could afford more then one entrance in smaller schools you wouldn't need multiple protected entrances. Personally I think its a great idea to have a only a certain few entrances that are guarded.

You can’t. Pandora’s box has been opened. You people are talking about turning schools into prisons or concentration camps. Not to mention taking away freedoms. Even if you put armed teachers or Security who’s to say one of them will not turn.
You talk about get God back into schools... This has become a godless nation. If you don’t believe it just turn on the TV or radio. I will not live in fear and I will not teach my kids to live in fear. If a group of people would have rushed the gunman less people would have died. It’s easy to slaughter a prey that is running away. Question. Have you ever been shot at while unarmed? If so were you a teenager or a girl? fight or flight and most teenagers are gonna choose flight.

My idea is to have doors that automatically lock all classrooms at the push of a button which would not allow a shooter to enter a classroom

I have been shot at while unarmed....I ran like a girl... I have been shot at while armed and ran....at the shooter. He went to the hospital. there should be, at a minimum, one armed officer at every school, more officers if the school is big and spread out.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
