Do yall have issues with breaking off alot on fluorocarbon? I'm breaking off on alot of fish at the hook set. I've tried several different brands of line, line sizes from 15lb to 20lb. I wet my knot before I cinch it down and I've tried different types of knots. I mainly tie a palomar? Knot. Am I setting the hook to hard?

Interesting. I will just now start using floro on one of my flipping sticks (20lb). I tied a snell knot as I always do,and curios to see some of the reply here. When u say a lot are you meaning once a trip or more?

Is the line old. Is your drag set to tight. Line does go old.

As you said wet it good but don't pull your knot down to fast & just snug it up don't pull on it real hard when you cinch it

I have used fluorocarbon a LOT in saltwater and I do not remember ever breaking it on the set.

There was one day in particular that I'm thinking about. My wife and I got into a school of BIG fish. She was catching em left and right on a spinning reel with 15lb mono. I was using 20lb FC and was breaking so bad I think I caught 2 out of 10 bites. I know I lost every black and blue jig I had in the boat. It was windy, and I remember thinking maybe they had it longer than I realized and they were sawing it off as I set the hook. This was with new line. I lost a big fish a few trips later doing the same thing. Maybe my drag is set way to tight? I inspected the break and it had a little curl and tapered down to a point.

Fluorocarbon is great...however, one nick, pinch, snag, etc. it just got a breaking point in it. My guess is it's your knot and how you tie it...watch the video from the attached link. Best knot I have found for fluoro..

Sounds just like a knot issue. If you burn fluoro when you cinch it down it's done...

Its your knot. You are burning your line and it is breaking at the knot or just above it. This is the knot I use and you cant break it if you tie it right. The three tag ends bothered me at first but the fish don't care.

That’s a knot problem. You can over cinch your not and weaken it, or burn it with friction. It’s easy for the 2 lines to get a twist inside the hook eye when tying a palomar, that’s no good either. 15-20lb should be very difficult to break, that’s eaisly enough to pull up small logs. I caught a big 15lb or so stripe on 6lb floro leader a few weeks ago.

I only use sunline sniper and I’ve never had a problem with it breaking. I tie swindles jig knot. I never worry about line anymore

I use seaguar and have been really happy with it. I use it for pretty much everything g but topwater and flipping. I have not had any issues with breaking off and I've set the hook pretty hard with it a few times. You might be pulling down way too tight when you cinch it down. I just snug it down when I tie mine and I use the palomar and clinch knot. I had a guy fish with me one time out of the back of the boat and he had the same problem your having so I watched him rig back up after about the 3rd time of doing this and he would take his hook and hook it around the OS handle by the passenger seat and grab his line with both hands and cinch it down. After I saw that I told him that was his problem and to try just snugging it down and after he did that he had no more problems.
