I worked at a full service gas station there in college and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gorgeous women paying you $20 to air up some stroller tires before they hit LaPaz for some margaritas. Of course I ran into some snobby people, but the vast majority were very nice. Personally, I don't know if I will ever be able to afford it but I would love to live there. My Dad also retired from MBPD, I spent a good amount of time around Church St. growing up.

The majority of your crime comes from people feeling untouchable and leaving doors unlocked. Keep in mind South Town Projects are just over the hill.

I don't always hunt the line, but when I do, I make sure I'm close to my neighbor's 8 acre bean field.

When Doekiller's house burned just before Christmas the people of Mountain Brook came together to make sure they were alright, and gave them so much.and many merchants opened their doors for them so they could get clothes and stuff they needed at no charge. They were fed without cost by some of the best restaurants around. And no one expected anything in return. The crime rate is low, but stuff happens like ev erywhere. So where are you coming from, hating Mountain Brook? I can name a lot of places I would not want to live in, but Mountain Brook is not on that list.

That amount does not match up with the cost of real estate in the Tiny Kingdom.

Sounds like a lot of inherited money to me, but maybe it's not. I don't pretend to know, nor do I care enough to find out.

Not saying there aren't self-made people there...there are.

Average home value in America is $189K. Average household income is $59K. That means folks live in a house that's worth triple what they make, on average. Triple of $165K is about $500k. Those ratios are dead on. To me, that argues against a huge amount of inherited money. There just aren't that many folks that get a $500K from their parents, period.

Yep. Big difference in being rich and being wealthy. There’s A LOT fewer of the latter.

I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. Theres a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. Ronald Reagan

Look up 35213. That's the rich part of Mountain Brook, 35223 is the poor side that's where they let people like me live.

You realize he and I both live in bf egypt right? Along with a lot of other folks on here we would never live there or anywhere else we can't piss off the front porch. If I had the money to live there I would just buy a bigger piece of property and build a nice 2-2500 sqft house instead. I’m pretty sure mark could afford to live in the area but wouldn’t ever want to because of the rat race headache that comes with city living.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Good, now read Judges post. You realize I grew up where the closest traffic light was 35 miles away, right? Not that it makes a damn bit of difference.

Taxable income does not indicate wealth. I imagine most folks living in the wealthiest zip codes only pay themselves enough to live on. Warren Buffets secretary may pay more in taxes than he does, if he lived in Mt Brook he may pull the avg taxable income stat down.

After reading through all this all I can think is..........who gives a crap?

The true mark of a man is not how he conducts himself during times of prosperity, but how he conducts himself during times of adversity.

You ought to work on utilities over there. Good grief you have to be part billy goat, and not be afraid putting on your gaffs and climbing poles all day long over there. I worked in the area for nine years, and i can tell you one thing. I would rather hump those mountains over there than work in the front easement underground utilities in Greystone or Highland Lakes. I've been in or worked around most houses in Mountain Brook, met plenty of extremely wealthy or famous people over there. They were all nice. Greystone and Highland Lakes is a different story. I would live there in a second just so my kids could go to school there. Liberty Park was always fun place to work as well, there are some monstrosities of houses on the big side of Liberty Park, and 10,000,000 deer over there.

I like it because we do a good bit of work up there with our Christmas decor business but I hate everything else about it. we were in English village this morning working and I couldn't wait to get out of there. I mostly hate the traffic I couldn't deal with that everyday. Not that I'll ever have enough money to worry about it

That could be one reason I still dislike Mt Brook.
I can't even remember how many storm jobs I've worked up there. Can't get a truck to anything, can't even walk to most of the right of way.
Although I agree about the people. They are much more polite and friendly than some of the other high dollar places I've worked.
I think Capt Gus McCrae said it best, "Money is a poor measure of a man's wealth".

I used to hate brookies growing up in Vestavia and playing tennis...yet one of my best buddies played tennis for mountain brook...now, most of the guys I hang out with starting in college are mountain brook guys, and they are some great people and wouldn't know that most of them are really well off. I love mountain brook with their little villages filled with great places to eat etc, but moral of it is: People are people regardless of where they live...I refuse to associate/hang around people who do not respect others regardless if they are from Mtn Brook, Vestavia, Thomasville, Opelika, Tuscaloosa...etc
