Why is it that I always feel the need to spend a small fortune on new calls leading up to each season?

I just don't feel right if I do not have new calls to try out

I'm still hoping some of your old one come floating down the river.

Hey Kyle you might be destined to be a collector. I remember when I started years ago I had to have the latest and greatest every year but after 37 years you learn that calls are just a small part of the obsession. I wish I had held on to some of those early calls but through the years I sold them in yard sales or gave them to the grandkids.

I am building quite a collection. Most don't make it on a hunt.

The only new calls I get are my annual spring order from Stoney.

Have not bought a call in 3 years. Since the turkey decline spun out of control if I get to call to 1 or 2 a season the old call a do just fine.. unless I leave them sitting by a tree I hope the old one make it another couple years.

Picked up a new pot call yesterday. It's still deer season and turkey season is getting expensive already. Wish I had it with me right now. Sitting on the edge of a clear cut listening to a gobbler just over the property line.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

I usually pick up a couple of new mouth calls every year. Two mouth calls and a tube is about all I have ever carried.

a) it's fun
b) if you have the disposable income, why not?
c) box calls & pot calls are beautiful -- some of the stuff ole Redbeard is posting on Facebook looks incredible!!! i'm a wood grain addict
d) preservation of your old, no longer manufactured calls -- for real, i've been doing this long enough now that i'm "retiring" some of my older, cherished calls
e) if you get lucky enough to work with a custom call maker, you can pretty much "dial it in" w/the sound you want to get on a call

should i continue on??? wink

I typically will by a mouth call every time I walk by one in Dunham’s, Bass Pro, Cabela’s or some mom and pop shop. It can be July and if I walk by some hanging on a rack I’ll buy one, not sure why, just a need to have it comes up.

I buy new stuff all the time, but it seems like they all take a back seat to the ones I’ve had for years. I bought a new high dollar box a couple years ago and seems like I can’t make one answer it. But my 15-20 yr old Lynch’s foolproof gets it done.

I'll replace mouth calls every few years.
But I been using the same box and slate for 30 years.
