Bow 15 yards. I think the same with a buck while I was walking an old logging road. He was bedded next to it on the other side of a downed tree and he jumped up and went around some briars. I saw brown and shot and he ran off. shot my gum at the range and was a foot left and 1.5 ft high.

Matt I killed a gobbler three feet off the end of my barrel one time. Shot a hole thru his neck with skin left on both sides of the hole. DRT!!!
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Last year I missed a Bobcat (possibly panther for the sake of a good story) sitting dead still looking away from me at 20 yards with buckshot. I still have no idea what happened. I killed a deer the next day at 32 steps with the same gun and have never missed a turkey with it therefor I have no excuse. You'll miss one now. You just got the turkey jinx

With a bow, a doe at 12 yards. With a rifle, a stud 8pt. at 70 yards.

Rifle, <20 yards. 8deg and I looked like a swole tick. Time from first sight to trigger pull was just a few seconds...think I rushed it. Bow would have been less than 10yds.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Missed a hoss deer with my dad's old R.E.M. Pump back when I first started shooting rifles at 25 yards. I remember seeing dirt fly.... Missed a doe at about 10 yards running across a dirt road dog hunting. She was skint back.
Everything woke turns to shucks

About 35 years ago, I was in my third season of learning to deer hunt and still knew practically nothing about it. One afternoon I selected a stand that bordered the river in a strip of woods no more than 30 yards wide. After arriving to hunt, I grabbed my shotgun and loaded it up with buckshot, but as I started the walk to the stand, I changed my mind and went back to get my rifle. I reasoned that the ladder stand I was hunting had a view of the cow pasture outside the little strip of woods, and I might need the scope to see a deer that was across the pasture. 30 minutes before dark, while I was scanning the cow pasture with my scope turned up to 9 power, a big 10 pt (typical 8 with split brow tines) walked up beside the stand from behind me. I threw the gun in his direction and pulled the trigger, even though I could only see a brown blur in the scope. Upon inspection, I only found a few dozen white hairs on the ground and no blood. I searched for several hours with a flashlight and then for several more hours the next morning and found nothing. A few weeks later, another guy that had permission to hunt on the property killed the deer only a few hundred yards away from where I shot at him. I had only grazed the skin under his belly and he was none the worse for wear. Bad part is the guy owned the local bait and tackle shop, so I had to see the deer mount every time I went in there. Worst part is that the white hair I found after I shot was only 4 steps from the base of the ladder stand I was sitting in. That was my first lesson in "loud noises don't kill deer........"

I missed a buck at 15-20' running straight at me, in front of dogs. He slammed on the breaks and looked behind him where the load of buckshot hit the palmettos. Put the whole load in his throat patch on the second shot.
May the sound of hounds never die!
