"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to sign on to a plan that would open a path to citizenship for as many as 1.8 million “Dreamers,” who were brought illegally to the United States as children, senior White House officials said on Thursday.

Trump’s plan, which the White House hopes the Senate will vote on in early February, would require Congress to set up a $25 billion “trust fund” to build a wall on the southern border with Mexico, and invest in better protections at the northern border with Canada.

It would also require Congress to limit family sponsorship of immigrants to spouses and minor children, end a visa lottery system for certain countries, and spend additional money on border guards and immigration judges - among other measures - the officials told reporters in a briefing.

Dang. That doesn't sound like a bad deal.

They are also planning to release that Nunez memo after the state of the union, unless he reads part of it at the state of the union.

Not a fan of the "trust fund" part, just build the freaking wall. The Dems screwed Reagan with a deal like this.

I dont have a problem with that, got to be some give and take or else just argue and never get anything done. As far as DACA, whats done is done. Get this deal done and then work to change it in the future through bipartisanship if possible.

I have no doubt Trump WILL build the wall.

The trust fund is to ensure that the funds are available in the future to build the wall. If they don’t secure the dollars now any future congress will choose not to allocate funding & progress/construction will stop. This is what the demorats did when Reagan agreed to amnesty. They crawfished on the deal and never secured the border.

Count me as skeptical anything close to that proposal gets through Congress. Dems don’t want the GOP getting credit for passing a path to citizenship even though they (Democrats) could have easily done it back when they had the super majority. Schumer and his ilk will make some outrageous demand that the GOP will have to balk on and this will die. After which the Dems will claim the GOP is the bad guy for “putting politics before people”. At least that’s my uneducated prediction.

Some of the DACA kids were protesting outside of Schumer's house last week. The dems not getting on board will, the memo release after the State of the Union, the economy may destroy the democrat party for a long, long time.

I'm all for a path to citizenship if it includes a clean background, other than breaking the law by being here, and evidence of education or working to better your situation while you were here illegally, and catching up on your taxes. If it were my decision, I would make military service the easiest path. The perpetual leeches, gang members and criminals need to be put on the next bus back. I would like for this to be weighted towards kids who were brought here not on their won volition. Instead of creating more leeches, give them a path to become an American that will help not only them, but America as a nation.

This is close to the Annesty plan from 2007. I’ll ask this question here you make all these leech dreamers legal. Then what becomes of their illegal alien parents? This is an amnesty plan on a much larger scale than the Regan amnesty from the 80s. The only way to stop illegal immigration is have mandatory e-verify and enforcement of the laws currently on the books. No work they will self deport and take their little some in their 30s so called dreamers with them

I have offered DACA a wonderful deal, including a doubling in the number of recipients & a twelve year pathway to citizenship, for two reasons: (1) Because the Republicans want to fix a long time terrible problem. (2) To show that Democrats do not want to solve DACA, only use it!
