I got tired of the push pins, and decided to make these markers using an old safety vest, double sided tape and some regular clothes pin. You can see these from a mile away, going in and out of the stand. I like to clip them low on small branches and brush to keep the light at a minimum. Easy to put on, and easy to take off. Thought I'd share to help someone in the future! What hacks do you guys have?

Good idea. I would suggest using less. Remember if you can see them everyone else can too.

That's true. May work best on private land for guest and such. Haven't had any stolen yet!

I take old arrow shaft cutoffs and cut them into pieces 2" long then wrap reflective sign tape on it. Just slip it over a twig and you're good.

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Yes sir, great idea! We used those for years. Had a buddy in the sign business and he would give us his "scraps" of reflective tape. Cut to size and slap it on a clothes pin.

Awesome idea to use the vest! thumbup

Good idea. I think I still have some of those old glow push pins somewhere. These days I just mark a few waypoints though when I'm in semi-unfamiliar territory.

I guess my only hunting hack is to hunt high. Even with all of the scent blocking technology we have now, we still stink. I like to climb 30+ feet high. 40 is better. Several times I have had a group of does walk or even hang around and feed 15-50 yards downwind of me and never even act suspicious. Unless there is a downdraft, most all of my scent blows harmlessly over their heads. If they don't smell the trail I walked in on, there is a really good chance I will be undetected.

Another benefit is that you can see over terrain changes better and see down into cutovers better. That can be huge too.

Don't dare do it without a harness used properly though.

With sign material years and years. You can also run a piece of wire through it to twist it on a bigger limb

What are your thoughts on hunting high ridge pine thickets? My lease is mostly pines that sit on higher ridges compared to the hardwoods.. but its superthick in areas.

Toilet paper.... keep your socks, and mark blood trails.

Speaking of hacks, trails, waypoints and the like, is there a good GPS app you can download for hunting?
I hunt familiar spots mostly but it would be nice to have a GPS without buying a GPS.

Well now, that sounds like one of those places that would be hard to hunt from very high, depending on the age of the pines. If you can get above them by climbing a tall hardwood on the edge, and the pines are only a few years old, you should be able to see pretty good and forget your scent just a little bit. But if the pines are several years old, forget about seeing into them. I'd back off of the edge 30-60 yards and sit back and watch the edge. I'd still climb high if the trees and canopy will allow for it. But sometimes you can see better a few feet lower especially early in the season before leaves fall.

HuntStand. It will mark property lines based on county tax records. I use it to mark feeders, stands, cameras, etc. you can laos measure distances.

Thanks for the advice. My only concern are swirling winds... but you don't know, if you don't go.

I downloaded Huntstand the other day and really like it. My dad who lives in Atlanta can log in see exactly what's going on with property, tasks, photos, etc. I'm hoping it will help us manage the property this of season.

Cool. I take cloth retro and cut into 1/2 inch strips about 4in long. Then, I cut a slit in the middle to hang on limbs.

Good idea, I have found some similar in a spot I hunt on some National forest. These are family old and have survived some burning. I dont use them but thought it was a good idea. They had used plastic clothes hangers with reflective tape on them.

OnX Maps. Thank me later. It does have a yearly subscription fee, but this app is worth the money in my opinion. Save high-res satellite view for "off grid" situations, save waypoints, property ownership, tracks, waypoint sharing with your buddies, public land layers, etc. It makes my GPS obsolete.
