I thought there were no firearms allowed on the refuge? Are you bowhunting those turkeys? Actually the way the regulations are written, there is just no gun DEER hunting. From what I understand, all other seasons are for the most part normal. I would always call and confirm first, but doesn't look like there are any restrictions for other animals, with a few exceptions like trapping, crows, dove, etc. https://www.discovershelby.com/DocumentCenter/View/17

I hunted it a bit two years ago as well, and I saw some awesome sign but never saw a deer. never saw anyone else hunting or hiking out there either.
