Actually the rut looks to be coming in a little ahead of schedule this year. I'd look for it to be fully involved by at least 12:13AM or so on that date.

Middle of January is pretty accurate.

I'll just give it to you as I see it. The breeding looks like a Bell curve. A few does come in, then more, then more until a peak and then less, and less. I've said for a long time on what I saw the peak breeding was Jan. 18. A nearby fetal study said Jan. 17. Close enough. Its all good hunting but the best hunting for big deer is usually around Jan 17-18 and around Jan 29-31. Now why Jan 29-31 I don't know. Lots of new bucks show up and moving a lot. I understand they have fewer does left to choose from but shouldn't the increasing side of the Bell curve be just like the decreasing side? And those dates haven't changed more than a day or two swagger in 30 years. May not see it, but that's the dates. Not enough info on Feb. 1-10 yet.

Ignore the second sentence if you want a serious answer. All indications so far are we are going to get a peak of the rut about a week earlier this year. So I'm guessing from about the 3rd or 4th until 17th or so will be it.

Just curious. what are the indications we will have an earlier rut?

I'm following this thread, I will be down around MLK day!!

That is THE day my step son has killed his best bucks. Why that day? Mainly because that is when he was out of school/ off work and could go hunting. Simply put, that's the day he hunts the most.

We have come down early January and Late January, We have the best luck middle of January. It's been that way for years. When we come late, it appears the deer are in lockdown mode. Early we see a lot of smaller bucks, around MLK day, the big boys seem to get fired up. However, our rut was three weeks early in Virginia this year. I'm hearing that could be the case I Alabama also, I'm abit worried. This year I'm bringing my daughter and was hoping she could have some success.
