Plan on hunting the spot where I saw the buck during the last gun hunt.
Hope to get a better view as last time I only had a few seconds and could only see his crown split at the top on each side, which I could see 2 points on each side. So counting any brow tines I think he only had 3 pts. each side. Hopefully I'm wrong lol

And possibly bounce between Zone A and the Nat. Forest on the way in. It is buck/doe in Nat Forest until Jan 1, and I haven't killed anything yet frown

Think I'm done for the year up there.

If you come in from the N, some of that land is NF. Like Piedmont down to 55 and some from 55 to Zone A boundary.
Easy to see on Google maps.

I saw deer sign last year and walked on a few, but haven't been this year but 1 time..and nothing spotted

But seeing as how it's either sex for those 15 days, greatly increases odds of at least killing 1 deer this season.
I didn't kill one last year either.

I'm on the fence with going. I've seen deer just nothing 4pt on one side or better. I may bounce up to Little River or hit the very north side of WMA.. Good luck!

Well I went Friday all day. Got pretty windy around 8 or so.
I had walked about half way to where I wanted to go, and just stopped for a min to look around since where I was standing was all hardwoods.

As I'm standing there all a sudden I hear and then see all these deer running straight at me from the side of a ridge. I mean flat out running like being chased.

So I squatted down, they stopped, ranging between 20-30 yds from me and just stood there, all does. A mamma, another doe and 3 smaller deer but not much smaller. Then they trotted over to where I was going and 10 sec later they all came right back and again were all 20-30 yds from me..
Thats's when I got to see one of the smaller ones look over to mamma and hear her make a call..That was awesome to actually hear a deer call. And they don't really sound like any deer call to me!

So the mamma walks down wind of me all others following here and then she winded me. It was funny cos she was just walking then BAM...flew 90º and bolted out of there kicking up all kinds of leaves.
Where they ran down into the saddle, I then spotted another deer. So I'm thinking maybe that was a buck chasing them (since this deer never came out really in the open). So I figured they all went down and away from me.

Well turns out, that deer was also a much bigger doe. She went down in the draw then came out on my left side and I saw here as she got near the top of where I was originally going. No idea why she never took off, but since the wind was blowing at here then over to me she probably never saw or heard me. She went over the top and down where I saw that buck go last time I was there.

To end the story, I just sat till about 1:30. Saw 4 Turkey's over where the buck came from last time. It's amazing just how good Turkey's see! I ranged them at 148 yds before they go to where I ranged. Then I kinda moved my arm and they all stopped starring right at me and walked over the top of the ridge they were on instead of keeping straight.

I did get out there Saturday.. man it was cold.. Anyway I didn't see anything myself, however a guy right down the road from me shot 2 hogs. One he got out was about 200(ish)lbs.. The other was massive. Guy and his buddy couldn't even move it with a game cart. Showed me some pics of him laying beside it and it was a true hoss! I didn't know there were that many hogs in that area.. Another guy stopped by with a nice 8pt he got. Said he shot it around 7:30am.. Interesting day.

I only saw 3 other trucks that day. A small white Ford (who was right down the road from me), an old orangish chevy and a white Toyota I think it was but he was back in the Nat. Forest.
I heard 2 shots that morning. The 1st sounded real close so I figured the white Ford guys got one.
The other shot was further off which woulda been around the orangish Chevy.
