Any one ever just sit at the base of a tree and hunt or does everyone have a blind or stand. Im thinking about trying this, seeing if anyone has done this and had luck.

I’ve shot a few doing that. Small bucks and does. But I use a turkey lounger or a Millennium tree seat.

That's how I started and still frequently hunt. Most of the area I hunt is steeeeeep so I'll just find a nice vantage point on a rock or against a little bluff or some kind of seat/cover. Works well for me. It'll definitely teach you movement and noise discipline.

I do most of my rifle hunting from the ground these days. When I used to hunt in mostly pines it was up, up, up to see. Now where I hunt the most productive areas are multi-layered hardwoods and you can't see much at all up above 12-15 feet and would be hard pressed to thread a shot through all the little branches. Down on the ground I can see 150+ yards in many places even with the hilly terrain.
There was a guy in our camp years ago who was well regarded as one of the best, big buck killers in the camps 40+ year history. He had buckets and fold-up chairs all over the place. I still find them in places today and have had good success hunting those same locations.

I always hunt from the ground, killed a bunch of them out of a Browning turkey chair.

I've shot 6 out of the last 7 bucks from the ground. I'd say I hunt from the ground 90% from the ground during rifle season. I love finding ground cover, sitting for a bit then moving. Still hunting is awesome and so much fun! Good wind and you're good to go. You should try it! The place I hunt has the perfect set up for it and the geography is perfect for not worrying about any bullets making it anywhere dangerous

I hunt like that all the time.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

I’ve killed several from the ground, including my best buck, but in recent years I most always use a stand. You can see so much more and if I’m buck hunting the does are much less likely to bust me.

When I carry a rifle I hunt from the ground a lot. Killed some decent bucks too. I enjoy rifle hunting from the ground morebtham hunting from a shooting house. By the way as I type this no am rifle hunting on the ground.

Biggest deer I've ever seen while hunting was from on the ground. I missed him. I was 10 or 11 and still look back on the hunt quite a bit.

As TR said, I opt for a stand, I can see a ton more.

Turkey lounge chair and a primos shooting stick is death on deer. All you got to do is tuck away in some cover.

I'm going to try that. Makes sense as you're not disturbing the area setting up a blind and brushing in then coming back. Could move easy if area not productive. I like it!

Ive killed two good bucks from the ground this year.

however I use a little folding chair and I put a piece of burlap on some dead tree limbs and make a little something to break up my body, give me some cover.

I also carry a turkey gobbler getter chair and a primos blind that you just push the 5 -6 sticks into the ground and it covers you for turkeys. Works for deer too.

Especially when there are 2 to 3 stories of vegetation. In the thicket getting high means LESS visability. In some thick areas sitting on the ground actually gives you more..UNDER the 2nd and 3rd story of branches and growth.

I have killed just as many from the ground as I have in a stand or shooting house. I kick all of the leaves away from around me so I can move my feet, stand or pivot without being heard. The freshly exposed soil is a great cover scent too. I use a hammock seat because it is more comfortable and can clip to your belt or pack. Consider wearing more orange than normal especially if rattling or hunting shared land. Wearing orange has never prohibited me or caused me a disadvantage. If you’re able, get used to shooting from a sitting or kneeling position. Learn to use your knees and elbows as a shooting rest. Learn to wrap your sling around your arm real tight for a steady aim.

Get ready for some close encounters. I had a yearling walk up to within arms reach of me once. Also shot a doe within 15 yards of me. You’ll get busted a few times too. It’s part of the adventure.

If I'm not in a ground blind I'm sitting in my chair backed up to a tree.
