Not backed by anything other than supply and demand. BUT, buying GBTC as a daytrading vehicle can return money. Buy on pullbacks into support and set a trailing stop loss. One share is a little over $1500 today. Was $1100 Monday I think. Take profits quickly and don’t hold overnight so you don’t get gapped below your maximum loss amount.

Once price gets a little momentum going in one direction on a 5 or 15 minute chart, you can make a hundred bucks or more pretty quick just getting in and getting out.

I’m in the slow money over fast money, easy come-easy go crowd.

Some fella was trying to sell me on it the other day and the conversation went about like this.

Me: “How do you get your cash back?”
-“Oh it’s easy, you just do this, that, download this, and poof! You got it. They even have ATMs set up for it now.”
Me: “Oh yeah, where at? Cause I haven’t seen one”
“They’re in Atlanta, and other big cities.
Me: “Well I’m in Alabama, and I’m not driving to Atlanta to get cash”

It would be hard for me to invest in something that I knew nothing about. Seems to me like the buzzards are already on this horse.

Quote:
What Bitcoin Isn’t

“Backed by nothing”
This is the goto criticism for people who simply don’t understand that crypto-currencies are based upon mathematics, zero-trust, open-source and consensus. They think that bitcoins can simply be created “at will” and are backed by nothing.

They also say that as if the world’s reserve currency, the US dollar, isn’t, literally, “backed by nothing” and hasn’t been since 1972; and as if it can’t be created at will, which it most certainly has, with a vengeance.

Source: St Louis Fed

Indeed as Galbraith continued in our earlier passage:

“This was true in one of the earliest seeming marvels: when banks discovered that they could print bank notes and issue them to borrowers in excess of the hard-money deposits in the banks’ strong rooms”.
All fiat currencies today really are backed by nothing and can be created at will (that’s what the word “fiat” actually means), and perhaps unbeknownst to many we are right now in a protracted, global currency war. Every nation is “racing to the bottom”, trying to devalue their currency against their trading partners so they can:

give their exporters a competitive advantage

pull stronger currencies in to make money on the exchange, and

service their ever expanding debts back with devalued, cheaper currency

This is why everybody’s purchasing power is going down despite tenured academics and central bankers incessantly complaining about “low inflation” and political spokesmodels always talking up a “strong currency”.

Bitcoin isn’t: “Backed by nothing”

What is? The USD and every other fiat currency in the world.

I was given advice to buy Bitcoin in the early days, I'm still sick about it.

My money in Ripple has quadrupled since I saw this thread a few weeks ago and my LiteCoin currency has tripled. Thanks OP for bringing up the app CoinBase, I'm on there and BitStamp making a killing, now!

CoinBase lets you buy small denominations of cryptocurrency, like $25 of LiteCoin or $20 of BitCoin and Ethereum. BitStamp, the seller of Ripple, requires $100 denominations. Some currencies, like Monero and Iota, require that you use crypto currency, like BitCoin, to purchase them. They aren't available for fiat currency exchange, and you have to go to https://www.binance.com/ or https://changelly.com/ to swap crypto for crypto.

New Year's resolution: I plan to make at least a 400% yearly return on investment by swapping to investing in crypto currency instead of stocks and USD. Even with our killer NYSE, blockchain looks enticing.

Go see www.CoinDesk.com for an explanation of BitCoin and Ethereum. The site Coin Cap at https://coincap.io/ will give you up to the nano-second pricing for the over 1k crypto currencies that are available.

A survey was done in Nov to see if people believed that the 2018 gains would be as big as the gains in 2017, around 1,700% returns. And, 77% of the 565 respondents thought that 2018 would be bigger. This is my kind of opportunity. I might have missed the past few years of some BIG BitCoin returns, but I won't be absent for another year where I could stand to make some big money.

Some daring souls are taking out HELOC loans to buy BitCoin crypto currency, according to www.drudgereport.com

Disclaimer: It's a sheer gamble, don't expect to have anything left in crypto currency in the event of hacker theft/bug/EMP attack/etc.

These apps for crypto currency purchase, the wallets, ask for very detailed bank account and personal info. If you're credit reports aren't frozen after the Equifax credit hack, they should be after sharing BitCoin wallet worthy info online.

You will be responsible for paying capital gains tax, usually around 20%, on any profits earned by investing in crypto currency.

Correct. It is not an investment. It is actual money. Just like the US dollar.

^^^This^^^ People in the US think the world still revolves around us and the dollar is all mighty. Everything is going cyber currency world money. In the future paper currency will not exist. It’s crazy but look at any SyFy movie and that’s the future. Your cell phones, apple watches, stun guns, laser beams and now the money came from Star Trek and Star Wars.

That Ripple was a lucky guess. It earned me big profits and was my 1st bet. I've decided to take those profits and go all in on BitCoin and Ethereum Cloud Mining at Hashflare.com

If you've seen mining operations, where computer graphics cards are used to mine BitCoin, the cloud mining is the same thing. But, you don't have to buy the hardware, set it up, pay the electricity, and/or replace cards as they burn out. With Hashflare, you can pay an upfront fee, from $2.20 to infinite dollars or BitCoin and then earn daily payouts, in BitCoin, Ethereum, or Zcash.

There's videos of chumps on YouTube making $1 million per year after investing $100k in cloud mining at Hashflare. One dude online earns a passive income, in BitCoin, for several thousand bucks worth per month after investing $20k. You basically get back 2 to 10 times your investment, or more depending on the increase in value of BitCoin, over a one-year period from the time that you put the money down to invest with them.

I'm in to own an entire BitCoin 1 year from now and it was only $5k. I'm no day trader and I'm not about to quit my day job to go broke trading alt coins. I've moved my money to Hashflare and I'm not cashing out until it's a couple million dollars worth. Reinvesting after investing in a cloud mining contract, or two, is the way to win in the crypto game. The alt coin market is just too volatile for me, my nerves can't handle it. But, I'll pay a guy to rent his mining setup and then collect royalties off of the BitCoin and Ethereum he mines with my money.

They're out of Scotland and I think the miners are in Estonia. They're on Instagram as HashCoins/HashFlare hashflare.io and they've been around since 2015.

Disclaimer: BitCoin and Ethereum cloud mining is still a gamble. If the miners go belly up or if the value of the crypto currency goes down, then you could stand to lose everything invested.

This is a delicate balance, relying on people to buy and use crypto currency for it all to retain value. The 1st electro magnetic pulse (EMP) weapon attack or hacker maniac could devalue all crypto currencies.

Roth IRA's are better bets, especially with the stock market soaring with no end in sight.

Seems like it only has value if someone is willing to buy it from you. Last guy standing just loses everything.

i buy bitcoin on coinbase then transfer it to binance because they have a huge selection on cryptos. For the new guys there are way more cryptos than just bitcoin, ether, and litecoin you can play those but the bulls are in that market and without knowing what they are going to do its a risk you are taking. I like buying newer cheaper coins. on binance i am currently invested in XRP (ripple) and TRX (tron) both can be bought relatively cheap. Just download the app and check it every so often and you can time the jumps and dips. On the cheaper cryptos though as they would say HODL (hold) them and check them in a few months im sure you will be happy.

I've got a bit, do the coinbase, move to binance thing. It all took a major dumper a couple of nights ago.
