Good Evening everyone and I hope you had a fantastic day. I was just wondering if any of you hog or deer hunt on Fort Rucker. I would really like to start hunting this area but need a tag along to get familiar with the grounds. I have completed all the necessary stuff to hunt there just need to find some hunting buddies.

I've been looking into it but haven't pursued it. If it's like most military bases I've hunted, only certain areas are open at any given time. This is based on the maneuver/training schedule and it changes daily. You also get to pick based on what category you fall into ie (Active, Disabled, Retired, Guard/Reserve, County Resident, State Resident, Non-Resident). Each post also has their own categories some are military or retired only, others include the public towards the bottom of the list.

This makes it hard to hunt because unless you're stationed there and/or across the street because you won't know the units open/closed that day until 0500 the morning you want to hunt. Basically means you can hunt unit 12 day 1, then unit 33 day 2, then unit 17 day 3, ect and never really hunt the same unit in a year. It makes it very hard to scout and pattern the deer but if your stationed there its a lot easier same if you're local because you can essentially pick a couple of units, call daily and when they're open drive over draw a permit and go hunt it and learn those couple of units.

If you're in or recently got out its a great way to hunt other states because you can call a buddy who hunts and is stationed elsewhere, or at your old post when on leave and go hunt with them in units they've learned. I know a couple of guys that do this pretty regularly at Knox and Campbell and when the units they don't know are the only things open they'll go hunt LBL and it's a really cheap way for them to hunt KY.

Just some advice from someone who's hunted a few military bases before.

There're a few on here that have hunted Rucker, before. I'm sure someone will be along to chime in, soon.

Rucker has gone to the isportsman sign in process. Like everything else it's all done on line, signing in/out, checking on available areas being open or closed. Make sure you know which weapons can be used in the area you are hunting. The website has the regulation.

Hogs are everywhere and move all day long through the white oaks like freaking vacumn cleaners. They don't just stay in the creek bottoms. There are restrictions on deer, no does and only 2 bucks and they have to have at least 3 points on one side.

I will check that website out. The last time I look it wasn't up and running yet but that was back in August. Do they still have stands in certain area's that you can put a request to use? I use to use the bow range that's closer to the Ozark side. I haven't been in quite some time now. It was loaded up with white oaks back then.

Yea they still have the stands in area 11. Had a pretty good crop of acorns this year.

Highlander, your best bet is to get out in the woods! Internet scouting won't help kill the hogs.

Hogs move to different areas a LOT. Hunt all the way to dark. Hunt near acorns and thick cover. Look for tracks in mud.... If you do these things, you will kill a pig
