columbia omni heat have been better than i expected, as far as comfort and durability HERE sitka has held up really well, too and no question on its thermal abilities...but expensive! there are some decent sales on at various retailers with the medium weight traverse line (no real need for the heavy stuff here, so can't speak for it). HERE

Skiing stuff is a lot cheaper than hunting. The grid fleece academy sells is actually pretty good. I also like Cabelas branded base layers.

I just got the Cabelas Polar weight base layer stuff and it is great, I get cold easily these days and it keeps me warm, of course I don't wear it unless it is 32 or below, any warmer than that and you will be sweating....
It is on sale this week...

I am planning on getting a lighter weight version for the 35 degree and up days, in my opinion you cannot go wrong with the Cabelas brand base layers especially for the money..

Looking for some base layer recs. Light and heavy Minus 33 merino. Same thing as First Lite but cheaper. It's still pricey but I've had mine for 4 years now and it's held up great. They also sell it on Amazon where it may be a little cheaper. Light Mid Heavy

I’ve had minus 33 and it’s good but the Cabela polar weight or whatever it’s called is awesome and less expensive. It better be cold though if you wear it. My old wool stuff had gotten worn out a few years back so I tried the Cabela's stuff. It’s good but I sweated way too bad in it and it didn’t ever wick sweat like wool. To each his own but I just ended up having to spend the money on wool anyway. Point is, I wouldn’t let the price tag of Minus 33 sway me away from it if I could afford to get it. When I bought my old wool stuff that was basically what a majority of base layers were made out of so it wasn’t near as expensive. When I saw the new price tag of it I decided to try something cheaper and went with Cabela’s. It wasn’t cheap either so it hurt even worse spending money on it and then on wool. I paid a lot for my Dream Season Pro too but when it came down to it, I’ve had it for 5 years and plan to have it a lot longer. My $0.02.
