I don't need a huge saw - mostly just need one for smaller and medium sized trees and big limbs - but if I'm going to buy one I want it to last. Who makes a solid reliable saw? I don't mind paying a fair price for a good product...but don't want to pay out the @$$ either. The only saws I've used in the past have been cheapo crap models that tore up fast. Thanks.

Stihl. Go to their website and compare saws. And FWIW, you won't find any sales on Stihl. The dealers are locked in on price by their distributor in their state. I saved $30 by buying mine in Fayetteville, TN.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Stihl or Husqvarna. Echo and Jonsared are close seconds. Run quickly from anything that says Poulan on it!
The Stihl arborist saws are crazy-expensive...I have a Tanaka arborist saw, and so far I've been super happy with it. In some areas of Europe and Australia, they think of their Tanakas the same way we do of our Stihls.

The only saws I've used in the past have been cheapo crap models that tore up fast. Thanks. I'm a Husqvarna guy BUT whatever you choose be sure to watch a ton of YouTube videos on how to tune and properly set-up your saw. The most dependable, reliable saws out there are the ones that are run by guys that know what that saw needs and when it needs it. It's not rocket science but there is certainly an art to it. Good luck and be safe!

Huskvarnna, (or however it's spelled) 1997-current. Runs great, chains and bars the only hard parts ever replaced.

I have a Stihl 180 and wish I'd have got one a size bigger.
Sig Sauer, to hell and back reliable.
Whatever suits you just tickles me plum to death.

Find you an older model husqvarna 365 or 372. A little heavy but either can run a 24" bar if needed. They're built like a tank and cheap/easy to rebuild when compression drops off. They'll down right cut like a laser with a 18-20" bar

I bought a husqvarna 440/18" bar for 200$, the other day. Got a one year warranty and have run it for bout 4 hrs so far with no problems, seems like it will be a good saw.

I have a Stihl 180 and wish I'd have got one a size bigger. I have had a 180c for several years and I'm shickled titless so far. I'm only cutting brush, clearing old roads and some occasional firewood though. No real heavy work. 291 comes out for that.

Which ever saw you get, get a good saw file guide and use it every time. Your saw will cut better and the chain will last longer. Spot on right here! I always just used a file without the guide, but after getting the guide a few years ago it made a world of difference.
