I guess every club has them. Never showed up for a work day. Never showed up to plow or plant food plots. First hunter with his son at the club to sign out the best green field. That's teaching another generation to be a selfish prick.......just like Dad

Does the club have rules against such? Do they have fines/penalties for such? Are they enforced?

There are 3 certainties in an uncertain world:

1. All Politicians Are Liars
2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement
3. Taxation Is Theft

Yeah, these things can be avoided.

We got a whole club of them. 2-3 of us have done everything out of 15 and all the turn-key hunters showed up this weekend all asking where they should hunt and where are we seeing the deer. SMDH.

The sad part is, is that it has to be a “rule”. Should be common flippin sense. This is reason number 4537 why I’m not ina club any longer.
And he’s gonna keep doing it because nobody snatched him and his hopeless kid up by their collar and moved them to the back of the line.....or their vehicle and told them to get to work. See them next week.

We've always believed in minimal rules, never had problems. Just got a couple of new members that think they don't have to work

Ok, what was said to non-work day dad?

After a little thought, like has been previously mentioned add work day fines to club dues and after all work is completed refund said monies.

Did you talk to him or just vent to us? If you let it go it will not change. Who is in charge of the club, did they take any action?

Every club seems to have at least one. I enjoy the work and preparation almost as much as the hunting. I never understand the ones that just show up to hunt. Or they can't take a day off for a work day but when deer season comes in they have three weeks of vacation they need to use. Funny how that works.

When I was in a club, we usually weeded those folks out and didn't offer them a spot for next season. Having a monetary fine won't usually work for missing days, even if it's $100.00 per missed day, because I have found that you spend pretty close to that anyway going to a work day on vehicle gas, gas for weed eaters, chainsaws, food, etc... We ended up with a group of pretty much like minded guys and then assigned certain chores to certain people, that had to be done, before every season. That way, EVERYONE knew exactly what they were supposed to do and who was responsible if it wasn't done.

I've been in clubs and work days always seemed to be at the worst time for me to be there.
I've built shooting houses at home for my work days or I'd buy all or a larger part of the seed sometimes to make up for my part and still had people cry about me not doing my part.
In one club I was the only member who owned a tractor and one of the other guys would come get it and use it and I'd hear how I didn't do my part.
I've never been in a club where everyone did their part and I've never been in a club were everyone was satisfied

A lot of times back then during construction season it was work all day everyday 7 days a week and in the winter around hunting season it would slow down. I've paid dues at clubs and not show up one time to hunt because work didn't slow down.

If you ( general term) don't think someone is doing their fair share be a man and talk to them about it maybe y'all can figure something out that works, if not get rid of them.

Generally clubs suck due to human nature kicking in

We had a change in leadership at our club. We saw immediate improvement in participation on work days. Those who didn't work had to pay fines and their hunting rights have been suspended until they pay. I think we will continue to see improvement and weed out those who don't want to work.

There are always those that contribute the bare minimum but seem to find the time and resources to hunt the maximum amount. This is easily understandable and many of us have seen it a lot. Judging by some of the comments asking if there are rules that prohibit such, I’d say there are several of those guys here. Statistically speaking, there are probably lots of those guys here.

there is a solution to that problem, run his arse off. I run a club, have for years, and if someone doesn't help out, he won't be back next year. There will always be some that do more and some that do the minimum. If you can't help a little or can't follow the rules, you will be gone.
Over the years, we have weeded out the less than desirable members and have had the same members for the last 4 years. We have 6 members on 800 acres and nobody hunts a whole lot. A few of us do most of what gets done but you better help with planting. If I tell you to do something specific, you better do it. Everyone has learned it's a bad idea to piss me off. I see myself as a benevolent dictator, until someone else does half as much as I do, they need to be do what they're told, because I don't ask for much and we have a pretty good place to hunt, only a few have left the club by their own decision in the last 7 or 8 years. Rant over

We have a lease with 4 guys in it. Me my uncle and my long time hunting partner do 100% of the work. The 4th guy typically doesn't do any work but will only hunt 3-4 times a year. I can live with that but if he gets to the point of hunting as much as we do then I will have a conversation with him.

To be honest though we enjoy the work as much as we do the hunting.
