Anyone hunt in or around Pine Apple? I was wondering what your most successful times of the year were. For me, it seems like very early (bow season and November) and very late (after MLK day) are the best with a big lull in December. I haven't come up with a very good December strategy and was wondering if anyone has had any luck.

I pass through Pine Apple on the way to my place about 40 miles NW of you. In that part of the state, you may as well just give up on December. There is no Dec. strategy that works. We try to kill our good ones early in bow season or opening weekend gun season. If we dont kill them opening weekend of gun season, we basically dont hunt it and just let the place be a sanctuary all of December (our neighbors hunt hard all season and will pressure their deer over onto us). We let them pile in on us during December and then we start hunting them hard just after Christmas through the end of the season.

Dogs make for a great December strategy.

I feel bad for any dog that runs on our place. I refuse to shoot a domestic dog but I think I'm the only one.

I hunted near Pineapple for years. It was just as you explained it...bow season was usually good, and the 2nd/3rd week of January was hot...but December was usually terrible. Not sure why...We didn't run dogs but the club beside us did. They would stir some up occasionally.
